Yesterday the Prelude went up on Pistonheads and PreludeUK for sale. I think its competitively priced for a 5th Gen 1999 but as Im waiting for Pistonheads to approve my listing so no one can see the bloody ad - anyway, thats a different story...

I've recieved interest from a guy who asked all the standard questions about the car - condition, spec etc but now wants to know the chassis number off the MOT certificate?? why? He keeps saying he wants to check its insured - it is insured... Am I right to be withholding this info? Sounds like some form of car ringing to me?!?!

Can anyone manually see:

Its not listed in the Prelude section for some bizzare reason yet. Any feedback on the ad welcome :)

All he needs to find out if it's insured is the reg, plus he has no need to know if it's insured or not.

Certainly don't give him your chassis number.

Also, nice car, the colour is definitely a marmite thing, but I quite like it =]

i'd tell him to get stuffed, he doesn't need to know the chassis number for insurance purposes. even if he did, how does it affect him if its insured?

If you give him the chassis number then you may be interested in a part exchange for these 3 magic beans + cash my way?

Exactly, I've tried to politely seem confused as to why he needs the chassis number to find out if the car is insured - he didnt take the bait that I wasnt willing to give the information and has phoned back since requesting it "because he has cash......"

He's down in my phone now as "ignore this pleb."

On a side note, thats a lovely car and I would had it off you if it had been for sale 4 months ago!

Thanks :)

I keep looking at it and wondering if Im doing the right thing getting rid. I've spent a lot trying to keep it nice - but lets face it they're worth bugger all these days :(

Hoping a VX220 NA delivers as many smiles (cost effectively) as the Prelude has over 3 years. Im just getting a bit bored with the thrashy power delivery of the VTEC engine.

Do people think £2000 is about right? PreludeUK reckon £2500-2800 but I cant see it moving at that price.

I asked for the first x digits of the number when buying my first mini in order to make sure it was a genuine cooper... can't see why he'd need the whole thing.

If he'd said it was to make sure it was a genuine Motegi edition then fine. But he wanted to make sure I was insured on it???? Why, its him that needs the insurance not me.

God, Id forgotten what a chore selling a car was, text after text after text of "hi , mate. I m intrstd in your' pRelude. how much wud u go 2 mate. safe." They seem offended when you say the price is the price....
