Power Consumption 8800GTX

A follow on from a post made a few days ago,

I thought i would test the power consumption of my system


Using an Enermax 850w PSU

Testing on the wall socket

Idle uses approx 200W max

Load using various games tests, including COJ DX10 benchmark

Load never went above 300W

Maxing the CPU out in torture tests used 220w


I think that is pretty amazing considering the figures floating around

Testing was using eveything in Sig, CPU overclocked to 3.4, including 1 sata II hard drive, 4 120mm fans, and Vista 64

Im going to test my other system which has an X1900XTX just for a comparison

Don't forget the PSU efficiency as well. The actual PC consumption will be lower.

An overclocked C2D is going use a lot more then 20watts from idle to full load

My own tests of C2D at 3600ghz (with 8800gtx,3x harddrives 6x 120mm fans, 2x 92mm fans) is
idle = 218watts
both cores at full load 323watts

My tests also include a 18watt waterpump which is most likely why my idle wattage is about 18watts above yours..

Whats the thing you use to measure how much power your PC is drawing? Can't think of the name!

Plug-in energy meter is what's it says on mine..

Or you could get a Zalman ZM-MFC2 fan controller (the top part reads out your system power consumption)

Well, i dont personally know how accurate this is,

Typing this now im idling at 198w and thats with Speedstep and C1E on the CPU

Running NucleaRus wasnt maxing out the cores , so I just tried Orthos and it peaked at 250w


Looking at your meter in your thread im using the exact same one

TAT the thing i can find that will stress the CPU enough to break 300watts...

3dmark06 , Orthos etc makes the cpu draw much less power..

Will give it ago right now, although not sure if i can get it running in Vista 64


Nah, one of the pitfalls of Vista 64 at the moment, cant get it to run even on intels own Motherboard
