computer was working fine last night - turned off ok.

just tried to boot up - press the button and nothing.... no fans no nothing..... taking the side cover off.... the green light on the mobo is on (Asus K8vse deluxe) - tried resetting the CMOS - took battery out .... power leads... reseat everything.... and still nothing.

Does this sound like power supply ? Only have a laptop so no other power supply to try..... think its got suspicious as was gonna flog it in couple of weeks..... Sods law? lol

Any ideas... how about the switch on the case (chieftec) - is there a way of swapping the pins round so it will bypass the power button ??

TIA

thanks.
tried that - nothing at all.... I guess its dead..... thought it was strange that the motherboard light was on though ?

I guess there is just enough power to supply that .... but not even a fan ?

Without a multimeter its hard to tell, 5v rail maybe ok. But if its all disconnected and it can't spin up a fan when you short the pins, then the 12v is gone. You don't need to know more than that. It could just be an internal thermal fuse. Unless you really know what you're doing electrically, don't bother, get another PSU.

thanks mate - well to be honest its a really cheap PSU - before I knew the difference they make.

My dilema now is I was going to upgrade my system shortly..... was gonna maybe go extreme / quad ..... and 8800 (2 eventually)

so not sure how much power I will need.... was looking at the BFG for silly money .... it states lifetime guarantee .... surely this cant be as good as it sounds ?

Or is there a very good alternative....

also 1 more question : just happened to get my Dell 2407 the other day... would running higher resolution just happened to have sparked out the PSU... or coincidence ?

Have a look on the SLi PSU list.

You can find something like this for £115.

There is quite a few alternatives for dual G80, 50A 12v combined seems to be enough judging from the systems I've seen. Personally I prefer very good PSU's, its the heart of the machine, I stick to PCP&C

Lastly, the graphics card will work just as hard at lower resolutions. Just more fps, so no I don't think that would kill the PSU.

ouch - gone for an Enermax Galaxy 850w

that should do for the next system build.

thanks for the help fellas :)
