Hmmm so how would that actually operate though?

Pointless, the "optimum" Lucid Hydra setup gives entirely no extra performance from xfire/SLI even though driver wise it actually seems to be stable and work in most games(supposedly). The problem is, the performance you get from one card, is around the same as that of two cards, when running with Lucid style multi gpu's. Its entirely not worth it, completely pointless and a waste of cash.

In theory its a nice idea, but in theory it was always going to be incredibly hard to get any worthwhile performance out of mixing different types of cards and load balancing cards with vastly different levels of power.

    isnt the idea more of:

you have a card from X, and you buy a newer more powerful card from Y, instead of selling X, stick it back in with Y, to give it yet more of a boost (even if its not using the full capacity of X)?

Combining say a GTX480 and GTX460 should mean you have GTX460 SLI type performance for games that have a multi GPU profile and GTX480 performance for everything else.
