Hi chaps,

I'm just curious as to wether or not the law can be used when a person is recieving serious prank phone calls?
I know the phone number of any caller can be retrieved by getting in touch with your service provider, but once you've obtained the number what can you do about it? In terms of getting the police involved etc. What legal measures can they take against the person that's doing it?

Thanks :)

BT have a service called 'Right to Refuse' or something along those lines. Basically you pay a small premium each month and you get a special number to dial when you get a prank call & it gives you an option to block that number (or unblock it later if you were drunk & 'accidentally' barred the mother in law).
We had loads of prank calls for a while -I suspect it was a disgruntled double glazing salesman who I was a 'bit short with' lol. Blocked 2 or 3 numbers and that was the end of that.
The missus also has an old mate who has spiralled into the depths of heroin, had a stroke etc. He started getting really annoying ringing us up at 3 in the morning completely wasted & sometimes quite threatening -putting the phone down if I answered etc. I blocked his number & probably everyone else's he knows with a mobile :D
Been nice & quiet for months now. Most pranksters give up easily if you take away their toys.
