I received my letter of excessive use from BT on Thursday last week, I rang them and explained i didnt want to leave as i had been with them since the trials in 97 but they said they no longer catered for heavy users like my family. Hmmm
So i got my mac code and rang Ukonline.Friday morning i received emails from ukonline telling me my line would be live by Friday and enclosed user name and password etc....
Oh yeah they also advised me that the max speed estimated was around 15.5mb down and 768k upload. More than enough for me. Lets hope the stats are correct. To be honest for £29.99 a month, anything over 10mb will do as i was £29.99 a month to bt for a 40gig capped line after they changed there terms and conditions.
Saturday morning the router arrived that you HAVE to buy, i needed a new one anyway and this one was only slightly over priced from them.
ANyhow ive set the router up just to use my bt line that i have at the moment and it seems far better than my 3com router and im quite impressed with it. Although as people mention the user interface is quite had to get hold of , im hoping this soons wears off.
Ive read about Ukonline on dslguide and opinions seems to mixed, like many other isps. There wasnt to many bad comments so im hoping i get lucky and have a trouble free line BT provided.
Is there anything i need to watch out for? Anyway of increasing speeds?
I already have a BT master plate installed and im the port of call on the line. Ive read that Bullion routers seem the onees to use as they use the same chipset as the equipment in the exchanges that Ukonline/easynet install. Many people have increased there speed by as much as 5mb just by using one. They seem cheap enough but are quite hard to get hold of. I dont know where they originate from though.
http://www.billion.com.au/product/adsl/bipac7202.php Can be had for around £40
http://www.billion.uk.com/product/wireless/bipac7402g.htm I think that one is there best one so to speak and can be had for £100
They have QOS on which many routers dont, even the cheap one does.
ANyway keep your fingers crossed for me and hope its a smooth transgression.
