allrightey boys, need a bit of help here, ive exhaused everything i can think of and still havent found a decent car. Its a long and nearly impossible list, but there must be something.

Budget is £1k - £1.5k, although if its something that i cant turn down it could probably get to 2.

Something luxurious/spacious/big but not some huge luxo barge that costs about a million pounds a month to run, im 17 on a testies income so can barely afford insurance, petrol and consumables on the car each month. have a bit saved away for special occasion big bills, but no +1k bills regularly.

any engine size up to about a 1.8/2. being 17 with a fault claim a quote on a 1.6 focus would be 1.5k, so probably reaching about 2k insurance at the max.

Would prefer 5 doors, but 3 isnt the end of the world.

im looking for something out of the ordinary, but not too ridiculous. im still drawn to focus's, as boring as it sounds, but they do all i need. i just want something a little different, exciting kinda.

doesnt have to be fast, just get me from A - B with relative comfort. i will sometimes have 5 in the car, but it doesnt have to be comfortable for them.

preferably not some ancient car, although i would considering a '89 318i, but insurance would be ridiculous. Interestingly, insurance on a 1992 mini is ridiculously cheap, but being 6 foot 4 i doubt it would work. However, having never sat in one, im not sure. if anybody is about my size (6' 4", about 13 1/2 stone), can you fit in a mini? Could be a good runabout for a year and a bit until i get a a bit of No claims and turn 19 which should hopefully put the insurance down a decent whack and get something decent.

sorry to be a pain in the arse lads, but i just need suggestions.

mondeo.

luxurious, spacious.

you want out of the ordinary for 1.5k? your having a laugh. anything unordinary will be crap.

i never actually thought of the mondeo, could actually be a very good shout. i dont exactly need that big a car, i would just like it if you know what i mean. the amount of times that it gets mentioned on this forum and i didnt even think about it :)

cheaper than a focus with a better spec for the money, likely to find the insurance cheaper aswell :]

yeah, not too bad at al. insurance on this mondeo doesnt come out that much more than tiny wee super mini's, i think we could have a winner.

Wow  I haven't seen a serious thread where a Mondeo gets recommend in about two years :p It should tick all the boxes for you though.

And had your license for considerably less than a year and you already have a fault claim  That's pretty unlucky!

So, you're 17, and have next to no cash? Get yourself a small engined supermini, a Fiesta or a Fabia or something of that ilk.

He doesn't want a small car, and frankly the running costs of something like a 1.8 Mondeo won't be greatly higher than a super-mini. It might use a little more fuel, but unless he's doing a lot of mileage (which would make a supermini even more pointless) the difference isn't going to be great.

That BX looks just like the one my dad had 10 years ago, and he certainly paid less than £1500 for it.

Top tip with those things, if you find you need to replace parts of the suspension hydraulics, don't get them from Citroen get them from an industrial supplier it's much much cheaper.

Other than that, yes, they're pretty comfy to be in and you don't see many of them about these days so it ticks all the boxes.

(I wonder what Citroen XMs are like to insure at 17? I've always had a soft spot for those)

Edit: Also I like how it says "one careful owner" but it looks like the front bumper is hanging off. I'd definitely go look at it though, if it was close by, and offer them 500 quid. It's certainly low mileage :)
