Looking to build a SB 2500k system for my brother soonish and have been looking over graphics card options which just seems like hard work currently as I'm so out of date.

Budget is £200 or below, no particular preference over ATI or Nvidia.

I'd appreciate if somebody could point me in the right direction for some decent performace charts or comparisons to kick my searching off so I'm not spending hours googling, currently he has a Nvidia 9800GT so I guess whatever we get is going to be significantly better?

Thanks in advance :)

This flashing of the 6950 to 6970 thing, is it something that all 6950's are capable of or is there an element of luck dependant on what you get?

Oh, and res is 1920 x 1080.

Thanks :)

Most reference cards do it fine but I believe ATI have changed up things so in a couple of month's time, it's unlikely to get a 6950 flashable to 6970 shaders. At the moment, most people buying the ref cards are able to unlock to 6970.

PowerColor is selling a PCS++ 6950 card with the shaders unlocked on the second bios so that's a guaranteed one.

I believe Overclockers are still selling Rev 1 versions for the reference design cards, but I'd check with Gibbo or somebody about that. the MSI was selling at £200 last week and was unlockable.

I'd completely discount the GTX560 and 6870 - they're not worth it if you have £200. I'd go with the GTX480 or the 6950, flashed to have 6970 shaders. If you get a reference card then you are very likely to be able to unlock (check the bottom of TechPowerUps! guide - there's a table showing unlocking success rates, and as you can see it's almost all cards that unlock).

The GTX480 is a powerhouse, and the results between the 6950 (with 6970 shaders) and the GTX480 are much of a muchness at 1920x1080 - you can't really go wrong. I'd argue though that the 6950 will hold its value slightly better, being the newer card, though again the difference is minimal.
