Price rise on the 6850 bad idea surely?

I got my £176 6870 today, well it should have been Saturday but ParcelFarce got involved and that was the end of my fun. :(

There seemed to be plenty at the place I purchased from, but the stock count fell like a stone even when their second "preorder" batch of the day (Friday) turned up, which is where my one came from. They are now selling at the 'standard' rate too, which is possibly a touch too high I think.

I missed out on the cheap 2TB Samsung f4's a month or so ago, not this time. :D

Screw this. My urge to upgrade the graphic card has gone cold now thanks to the price rise. Not that the games I recently play my 9800GTX+ can't handle at 1680x1050, but was willing to spend around £130 for an upgrade and a quieter card; not that I really need the upgrade unless I want to play the more demanding games, which I haven't actually got round to.

+1.

I was a bit tempted by these new cards. I`m a very casual gamer (still working my way through Fallout 3, which runs fine on my HD4850 512mb), but the thought a nice new GFX card was tempting. I was probably going to to wait until the new ATI cards are released next month anyway, but thanks to the price rise on the 6850/70s that wait will be a little easier.

Agreed.

OCUK should drive the prices down, force NVIDA / AMD to sell cheaper price pass this on to us and then bingo a truck load more sales which means more profit :D how many more people would xfire a pair of 6870 if it was £140 a pop :p

Makes me laugh that a year on the 5870 still represents the best price performance in AMD's product line even after the 6000 series launch.
To be fair this year's launch is started with mid-range rather than high-end. AMD's decision to do so is understandable, since they needed to wrestle the market back from Nvidia's GTX460s, which was eating up basically the entry level and mid-range market.

AMD must have been selling a lot of cards so they thought hey lets increase margins a little.
But it's ridiculous though. Because of the price rise, people who were going to get a 6850 or 6870 would now reconsider, and compare with the GTX460 1GB and GTX470 again before opening up their wallet and going for it...

I say bad move by AMD

Demands increase + cards running low = price increase. I don't think it's a permanent price rise you just have to wait until supply is stable again.

Good thing too as I want to hang on to my gx2 for a bit longer :p

agreed i was going to pick up a 6850 but seeing the increase ill think ill wait for the next price drop, damn get paid thurs and was going to pick a shiny new card arggg
