People will just buy the 460 1GB for 149 instead

Yes I know what they were touted to compete with.
Point is, they were slated at 150/200 from AMD as certain E-tailers explicitly said it was a weekend deal only. I paid 176 each for my 6870's.
I know it's stupid, but AMD have grown complacent imo, I mean look at the 5850, if only they'd dropped the price.....

well if the GTX 460 stays at the price it is i will be picking one up thursday, looks like im staying with the green team, if the price of the 6870 stayed at 176 i would have picked one of them up. extra £30 for better performance.

I wonder if this will become 5xxx series all over again. Started $259, few months later $310, no DX11 competition at that time but no games either.

I'm in the exact same boat and will be doing just as you are.

I was somewhat deliberating over getting the cheaper 460 for £150 and just overclocking it or getting the 6870 for £176. I finally decided on the 6870, but prices had already risen.

£149 - 6850
£199 - 6870.

6850 should be £135, 6870 should be £175 max. Its funny how they also released the 5850 at £199, but then increased the price after it became popular.

Its £2 more? The Palit one is still £149.99, the reference OCUK one is £144. The Gigabyte one for £151.99 is a much better purchase though.... until the price goes up.

I'm pretty sure the GTX 460 has been that price since last Friday? Unless you've been eyeing the cheap Palit version, all the others I've been looking at (Gigabyte, MSI Cyclone) have been around £150.

Thinking back now, I'm sure the same happened with the HD 4870. I brought it for £179.99 on release and within a few weeks it was over £200. Seems to be a pattern here with AMD.
