Problem Starting MoBo

I'm having difficulty starting my computer at the moment.

Basically, it passes the POST tests and then hangs at the MoBo splash screen.

If I turn on and off or maybe reset the BIOS it will start and once running it stays running until shutdown.

Reboots are successful but in most cases a full shutdown will make it difficult to start again.

This first started a year or so ago. It did it once, but when I got it going it was fine for months on end. I have one or two similar cases over the year but all of a sudden it has become very regular.

I've inspected the capacitors on the MoBo and they look haelthy - no bulging or leaking at all.

What else should I be looking at?

The MoBo is an IP35.

Cheers,

Nigel

Could try mem-test on the memory just in case you have a faulty stick, check for any update on the BIOS.

Think I might have found the problem.

I checked the cabling inside and when I got to the hard disk SATA the cable just came away from the MobO with the plastic header still attached. This left just unshrouded pins sticking out of the MoBo.

I made sure none of them were shorting and plugged the disk drive into another SATA socket and so far (touch wood) it has been fine.

I'm still not convinced this is the problem but perhaps it was cuasing the disk drive connection to be intermittent.

Cheers,

Nigel
