Problem when closing folders in XP

Hi,

Ok my friend bought her laptop in for me to have a look at and clean up etc. Now when she for instance opens a folder she has created on the desktop a window comes up showing the folder contents. But when she closes this with the X button it then opens up internet explorer?? It doesn't do this when you close programs though.

I can't think what is causing this?

Most likely spyware or remenants of spyware.

Have you done full scans?

Sure she hasn't accidentally assigned the left click button to close the screen and open IE?

Perhaps you could try running hijackthis and post the log on here, I am sure a nice friendly person will take a look at it for you.
