Problem with my Toledo 1.8T

Last August during a warm spell, I noticed that one of my warning lamps had lit up on the dash. It was the far right, middle row lamp which the book describes as...

"Diagnosis* / Excess of Pollution"
This pilot light lights up when the ignition is switched on as a testing device and goes out after a few seconds.
In case of failure due to excessive pollution it will start to flash.

This stayed on for a while and after getting the AA out to look at it as I had a long drive ahead of me, it was established that the MAF sensor was faulty and needed replaced. I got this done under warranty at the time. This was fixed in September last year, just in the last week of the cars warranty.

It's back on again.
Now, the light isn't flashing, it's just staying on after the car is started just like before. Is it possible that the MAF has failed again or is there anything else that this would indicate? I was under the impression that the replacement MAF sensors had the issue fixed. What should I check? I unplugged the lead into the MAF, gave it a blow and put it back in but to no avail.

Should the MAF be faulty, would it be covered under warranty since it was replaced 7 months ago, even though the car is out of warranty?

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Thanks :)

It wont be covered under warranty - the warranty on dealer fitted parts takes the form of the original warranty unless you paid for the replacement.

D'oh. That's the last thing I need now :(
I've called the SEAT service centre where it was replaced to see what they say although they're going to get back to me.

It only seems to happen after a hot & humid spell of weather. I'm hoping it will just go away although I can't really see it.

If it should need looking at, can anyone recommend a VAG independent specialist in the Windsor/Slough or Berkshire area?

Update: The ESP light has now come on which is the exact same thing that happened last time. I have booked the car into Camberley SEAT on Friday for a diagnosis and they reckon that the MAF is covered by a 2 year part warranty so fingers crossed it's the culprit.

My friend has an Ibiza Cupra and it chews through MAF sensors and coil packs. It could be possible that the MAF has failed already.

My Passat 1.8T had this very same problem.

First time was the MAF but the damn light plagued me up til I sold it.!

Have you got VAGCOM to read the fault code off?

I'm afraid I don't have VAGCOM but I'm thinking it would be worth buying a lead for the laptop. Is it best to buy a lead for the laptop and if so what software would I need? I have also seen the devices that plug in and show fault codes.

Which is best?

I have VAG-COM Scuzi if you want to meet me half way on sunday i'll put it on your car for you to check it. Maybe in Egham?

Thanks for the offer Dandle. I have the car booked into Camberley Seat tomorrow so hopefully they'll be able to sort it out. If not I might take you up on that offer :)

Actually Dandle,
If you could do this evening it might save me a few quid from paying the £72.50 per hour diagnostic charge but if that's not suitable don't worry about it. I'd fire you some beer tokens for your trouble ;)
I could drive to somewhere even closer to yourself if that made any difference.

Just left a message on your answer phone. Im in from now on give me a bell and ill give you my address. Got housework to do so im not allowed out :D.

Sorted :D

It was firing up a fault code P0118 which was the engine coolant temperature sensor. Dandle erased the fault code using the VAG COM and so far the warning lamp hasn't come on. Hopefully that's it sorted but if the light comes on again at least I know what the problem is. The MAF was reading perfectly btw.

Thanks Dandle, you saved me a load of hassle there :D

No problem anytime you need it give me a bell. If you can get four dual layer discs to me i'll do you a copy of the manuals I mentioned or bring them over and ill burn them while your here.
