Hello all,
My missus has a 1.4 TDCI Festa - 2003.

About 6 months ago an error started to appear, "EAC FAIL" and the dash lights would blink untill the error went. I did a fair bit of research and found some possibilitys of what it "could" be, i took the acceleator off, checked the connections and cleaned it all up and that seemed to have done the trick for a few months.

I did a service on the car prior to its MOT and it seemed to be fine, Flew through the MOT and immediately after collecting the car EAC FAIL again, this time its happening more and more often with a noticble loss of power when it happens, i would like to say that it kicks in at around 3k or as the turbo kicks in but it does happen a fair bit throughout the range too.

This weekend i took the accelerator off again and did the same task as before but i also took the side plate off to reveal the terminal pads, there was some visible marks on the terminal which i used a microfiber cloth to clear the film off.

Put it all back together and a squirt of WD on the terminals (electrical)

Fired the car up but it stalled, seemed to run out of puff, fired it up again and gave it a little rev, maybe to just over 1.5k for a split second and it was fine.

Went for a little drive and i noticed the car was quicker with no EAC FAIL on acceleration which was great, only when i came to slow down...
EAC FAIL!!!

Now it seems to be when im breaking it reads EAC FAIL.

Any ideas?

I forgot to add that, i have not got a reader but i have a few friends that may have access to one.
I mean to get it to them for a quickie, i dont even know where the management port is on these cars, google it is.

You'll be needing a new pcm (ecu in ford speak) IMO

This issue arises because of the fly by wire jive from the accelerator pedal. Don't get this done at a ford main dealer - book price is around £600.

A good ford indy should be able to diagnose quite painlessly

EDIT - diag port is under steering column I think
