Problems with VC games on my Wii

Im using an official component cable with my Wii, outputting at 480p, but when i try and play a VC game (golden Axe and SMB) the picture changes to 576, and goes, for want of a bettr phrase, really strange. Havent found much about this online, so i was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this?

Am i the only one to have this problem? Normal Wii games work fine

I'm guessing it maybe because them old pal games didn't support 480p back then. And Nintendo have given the pal version on European Wii.
