Hey,

was just wondering if it would be safe to have a metal wire touching the heat sink and the metal case or if this would cause a short circuit somewhere

thanks,

There's no reason why that would be dangerous.

The top of a CPU doesn't have any electricity running through it at all, it's just a metal heat spreader that sits on the silicon (not electrically conductive)!

If my heat-sink or CPU case was conducting electricity I would be worried. These items should certainly not be "live".

Basically I use a Silver Arrow and will be moving my computer around a lot, I bought this thin steel wire that clips onto the SA and the case to support it.

I have seen a few custom mods that use a metal bracket to secure heavy heatsinks and graphics cards that just attatch to the card or heatsink from the case.

But if you are moving it about a lot, you might as well put the case horizontal, that would work much better than a steel wire because there is still the potential of a lot of movement just using a wire.
