Project: mit kleinem Formfaktor

Finally managed to get round to taking some photos of my build. Although my DSLR has been sent to Canon for a service, using my wifes point and shoot didn't do too badly.

That is a very nice build, only thing that would concern me is the 80mm fans being slightly noisy!

Thanks :)

I can't even hear them mate, they are silent. I have 3 in total, all PWM and the the 2x120mm fans on the front are louder than the rear.

I've actually just swapped out the 2x120mm G3s for some Alpenfohn Wingboost 2 PWM fans as I need fans with a higher static pressure. Still not great, but better and looking for some cheap effective alternatives.

I really love what you did with your build mate. I might go micro or itx near the end of the year. I love this case, but I'm starting to look at the In-Win D-Frame Mini coming in September...If I did go for this case the red and black are the best combo imho. Nice one matey :)

Cheers mate, it was fun to build!

If think if I had to choose another case, it would be the Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV. I love the Parvum a lot and think it would look better if I watercooled everything, but I'm too scared to try encase I destroy the entire setup!

**UPDATE**

I've been thinking about how to improve the airflow for my reference 290 and mentioned to the guys at Parvum on the use of either 1x120mm or 2x120mm fans on the base of the case to draw air in for the reference cards. This application could also be used for running a 240mm rad in a custom loop.

Well, they've out done themselves again and are sending me a black base panel with 2x120mm fans holes as a beta before making this an option to purchase through their shop or OcUK.

True Gents :D Further updates will follow!!

That's awesome News.. You're a Designer now. :)

Drop us some more pics and let us know how it goes. :)

Cheers Dan. I guarantee there will be more pics.

Awesome mate, this is a cracking little build. I can't wait to see it when you get your new baseplate and the new GPU installed :D

GPU is already installed, but the perspex panel does get hot. When I updated my graphics drivers to 14.7RC, it was soooooo toasty I had to revert back to 14.6.

Temps and noise are not too bad, 60% at 87c on COH2 and a little more on borderlands 2.

This addition will make watercooling interesting, may run out of room for res and pump with my current idea.

Sounds really interesting mate!!

Glad they decided to test it out first and get user review/feedback. Make sure you post up plenty of pictures when you're done!

I remember my SLI 680's reaching temps of 95C-98C in that tight space lol

I can imagine. I tested 7970 crossfire in my case and my was it loud and hot. Totally not possible without reference cards and/or WC

Where did you get the custom backplate done? Looks great!

Cold Zero mate :)

I've had to take it off as I've replaced the 7970 with a 290 and need to remove the HD 7970 from the backplate so I can fit it to my 290. My biggest concern to adding it back is the heat my card pumps out - its nuts.

Well the base arrived this morning and I made no delay with swapping it over! I will apologise in advance for the quality of the pics, my DSLR was unavailable so had to use my phone :(

New Base Plate

To avoid stripping the case down, I removed the PSU, removed the retaining bolts for the base plate, tipped the case on its side and did a push/pull manure to switch them over.

I used 2x120mm Corsair AF Performance Edition running on a 7v adaopter. Quiet and efficient. Instead of idling at 50-55c, its no idling at 40-44c. Seriously impressed with a 10c reduction here :D

Conclusion:

The guys at Parvum offered me this as a beta. I can say that not only is the panel a perfect fit, but wether you're on air or under water, this addition is 100% worth the pain of stripping the PC down.

If I was to use this for watercooling along with 3x240mm rads, I would use a set of slim fans in the base of the case but outside as the would't fit. Since 2x240mm rads would be perfect for cooling 2 GPUs and a CPU, this could be a Marmite choice, but it would work.

I think that bottom might be useful as well if you are planning on adding a G10 to your R9 290 as well?

Dunno whether the tube joint on the rad will be flexible enough to fit in there tho :(

Anyway, nice build!!!!

Thanks :)

I wouldn't want to use a CLC on this card since I've got this new base panel. The fan speed rarely creeps over 60% now which in all honesty, is still very quiet when gaming with headphones.

If anything, I would swap all the fans in the case for Corsair SP 120 Performance so they look the same, but even then, the current performance is still impressive.

Looking sweet, loving that base panel. :)

A full loop would look insane. :)

Thanks :)

Tell me about it, but you'd need to be loaded to buy one. I've really been thinking about this over the weekend and with this new mod, I don't think I need a custom loop. I've got some insane ideas about the loop, like mounting a tube res on the right of the front fans and the pump towards the PCIe brackets, but I don't have the ££ to do it. To be fair, there is less to go wrong with my current setup - if it ain't broken, don't fix it ;)

The 2 fans at the bottom have made a massive difference, 10c less when idle and under load, the fan speed has been, in some cases, almost 25% less  which is nuts. Reference cooler barely gets to 55% now :D

Wow, I wasn't expecting that much. the is incredible considering its just 2 fans.

Is the 290 still noisy at 55%? :)

Not really. It gets close to annoying at 65%, 60% is just about OK, but playing COH2 for a few hours yesterday, it was shy of 50% which is inaudible when gaming with headphones, but tolerable without them - wife doesn't have to shout to talk.

I think the biggest issue with the reference cards is the delivery of cold air and while the temps are not that much better, +/-5c, but the fan is sooo much quieter.

I've not had an opportunity to test on other games like Borderlands 2 (soon), as I know that's a hungry game, but the immediate results are very impressive. It used to idle at 55-65, so a 15c ish drop is an amazing start.

The fans are running PWM too and I've been adjusting them to 800-900rpm when gaming and setting them to 650rpm when idle.

Im after a base now myself and a new midwall and tinted window :D Iv asked in thread in case section if not ill be on facebook and getting one ordered myself.

I hope you get some sponsors for your build tbh id love to see it underwater especially with a ref card.

I hope theyve kept the CAD Designs for the base now uv approved it ;)

haha - its a worth while addition that's for sure.

I wish I could WC it and sponsors are non-existent. I don't have a track record to prove :(

They did say they would produce these additional mods but mine was a beta so I got it early :D Cannot complain there :)

I'm using these PWM http://www.enermax.co.uk/fans/cluster-adv/ 2 in front and 2 on h105 rad.

Why does it have to be high pressure for 2 gpu's in SLI?

Because you want the air pressure to be forced against the fans allowing the cooler air to be sucked in. If you're just using high CFM, you're breezing over the GPUs and being sandwiched together to closely, its the best option for ensuring you've got adequate cooling.

Also, if you're using filters on high CFM fans, you loose performance. With high pressure fans, the performance remains when using dust filters.
