Your quite right. If we mixed all these studies on what we are supposed to do and not supposed to do we may as well be wrapped up in bubble wrap from birth and left. Although that could cause breathing issues.
 
What is the difference between sitting and lying down (sleeping)? Because even if you're only sat for a couple of hours, add on the time you've been in bed from the previous night and your screwed.

Because you use very very little energy sitting down and if you're not burning calories, it's just going to be stored as fat. :)
