Prometheus dvd release question.

the thing with the 3d in this is it was subtle, the idea behind subtle 3d is it blend so it immerses you instead of shock and awe style, it works but it isnt effective while you have bulky uncomfortable light restricting glasses on, with specs free 3d that delivers a crisp clean picture the 3d like in this, avatar and other subtle uses like dredd it will shine but until then its flawed in its delivery.

hopefully these titles will translate well to that technology and maintane a crisp transition in depth.

ill be getting this in directors cut to go along with the alien movies

seriously this has to be a troll :p

Of couse it is. Alien was original and groundbreaking.

Prometheus was some drivel about "engineers". Apparently, we Humans are neither made by God OR evolution. We obviously come from... "aliens!!!" (derp).

Whoever wrote this rubbish was clearly a scientologist.

There may not even be one if Scott really believes what he says about this film being complete.

I don't believe that for a second. Just trying to say they didn't release a broken a version after the backlash and try to sell more copies, then, Boom a directors cut will come out and loads of people buy a second copy.

That could also be said about Robin Hood and I think he's pretty much done with that. And G.I. Jane. And Hannibal (his third highest grossing film after Gladiator and Prometheus).

He's released 20 movies and only 3 director's cuts. He's made more poor films than good ones, a lot of which have also had a poor reception that he's yet to even mention revisiting.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it happens but the reality is that, statistically speaking, it probably won't.

It's well known that Ridley Scott loves what you can add to a DVD, but that's almost always extended to special features that don't include a directors cut. Alongside that is the fact that the Alien director's cut (which is a misuse of the term anyway) was requested by Fox, and Ridley felt that the film in its finished from is the one he prefers; the director's cut in the truest sense of the world.

Also, a part of me thinks that a director's cut might not even fix this film. It has more fundamental problems than incomplete scenes and missing character progression. But that's been discussed to absolute death in the Prometheus thread, hasn't it! :p

Five, maybe six films that are good. The rest are average or utter guff. Like I said earlier 5 (or 6) out of 20 is a poor hit rate.

You are being very critical of him. Some of his films will go down in cinema history and there are not many Directors who you can say that of.

Saw this in 3D at the cinema, it really didn't need it.

This. I found the 3d plain distracting.
The only scene where I thought it was effective was when he was standing on the mountain at the beginning. The distance perspective thing looked pretty good.
Other than that, I found it detracted from the immersion instead of adding to it and the way some scenes were blatantly shot just to show that 'hey, it's 3d!' were contrived to say the least.
Panning shots around pillars etc for example.

A gorgeous as the film looked, I have to say it was a bit of letdown.
Stupid little things spoiled it like the snake stroking scene... WTF?

I would go on, but...

Oh and for me, these are the only Ridley Scott films I'd rate as top tier fwiw:

2007 American Gangster
2001 Black Hawk Down
2000 Gladiator
1991 Thelma & Louise
1989 Black Rain
1985 Legend (For nostalgia, and there's nothing quite like it)
1982 Blade Runner
1979 Alien

Just finished watching this. A bit disappointing overall, lots of cool effects and some interesting story elements, but all far too loosely tied together.

Also, whats the crack with the Lawrence of Arabia obsession?
