Prometheus dvd release question.

Yup. Ridley Scott films are often disappointing and this is one of them, but as mentioned you have to see them in case it clicks and he gets it right.

For me the idea was fantastic but the execution was incoherent and badly done.

(a) Guy Pearce. I mean, WTF? Why have a younger actor playng an aged man in unconvincing prosthetics/make-up for the WHOLE movie? Actually got annoying by halfway through and stopped me from being immersed in the film. why not just use an older actor?

(b) Charlize Theron is just there for window dressing, she makes no real contribution to the storyline. Criminal considering her very good acting ability.

(c) You simply don't care about any of the crew as none of their characters are developed properly. It's a relief when they die off.

(d) Massive plot inconsistencies, badly thought out alien introductions etc

(e) You know a film is bad when the sole redeeming feature is Michael Fassbender playing a robot.

I saw it in 2D and glad I didn't pay the 3D premium. I'm hoping that the proper film is on the cutting room floor and gets restored in a Directors Cut, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

You are being very critical of him. Some of his films will go down in cinema history and there are not many Directors who you can say that of.

Yeah, some will but he seems to be incapable of distinguishing a good script from a bad script. The films with bad scripts are occasionally worth seeing to witness a good actor attempting to salvage something from a great big pile of rubbish and that leaves the vast majority of his films as disappointing. Wonderfully directed disappointments, to be sure, but disappointments nonetheless.

Prometheus is worth a watch just to see how good Fassbender is, however that doesn't stop the script from feeling like it took longer to read than it did to write.

He's more likely to go down in history as a great director who's made a lot of poor films. His skill behind the camera is immense. His skill at picking a good screenplay is poor.

Watched this last night, now I wasn't expecting Alien or Gladiator, but just a strong offering that had a good story and linked into the franchise some how that you went ' oh yea I get it '.

What I got was an absolute disjointed 2 hours of weirdness. Not a good film sorry.

There are definitely more exposition scenes.

engineers_openingscene_prometheus.jpg

A full Sacrificial Engineer scene in which the Sacrificial Engineer has Dialog with one of the Elder Engineers of which there are 8 of them.

The David and Engineer Dialog Scene in which David has a two way conversation, so the Engineer speaks back to David.

Alternative Fifield Attack Scene one where he looks more Alien but is in CGI

Full Shaw vs Engineer Scene where we see him enter the room with Shaw holding a Axe, and this scene we have seen in the trailers (standing above Shaw) and that other released giff of him picking Shaw up by the neck.

Also there was cuts due to Gore so the movie could be shown to a wider audience as opposed to 18+ which can only mean a number of alternative and more gruesome death scenes.

There is read on it. WIll be extended edition.

I've tracked this film more than most people on this forum, no extended cut has been "officially" confirmed either by Scott or Fox yet, unless you have a link that can prove me wrong.

There is a fan workprint in progress to incorporate the deleted scenes and also itunes has it listed at 2:39, this probably just means the deleted scenes are after the credits though, they've done this before.

yeah...

May be they will saw in delete scenes in with the extended cut so whole movie plays longer. That be the best!

Just saw the Advert for the BR is the Cinema and there's an "Alternate" beginning AND ending (their exact wording) so I don't know if it'll be part of the movie (click theatrical or Directors cut for example) or more likely added on as deleted scenes. Either way if you have to change both the start and end of your film you've probably got some issues!

personally don't see the point of extra dialogue between David and the engineer, what on earth is the point of more dialogue you don't understand. I think there could have been so much explained and reinforced if that was translated for you, only problem is the director and writers would have had to commit to an agenda for the engineers and the plot of the film was far too loose and open ended for that, committing would have meant they needed a solid direction in the movie.

numerous extra scenes of violence during the attacks could change the mood and structure of the movie, an alternate ending and beginning would obviously play a bif part in changing the movie so im hopeful these can make the movie stronger but im miffed that the film was so neutered for the cinema and really the director had plenty of time to sort this out. Even if the film rated at 18 it would have sold bucket loads and possibly had a wider audience and better reception if the story was so much stronger, inevitably with higher profits.

all this hinges on on if the changes make a massive impact but you can see it now, fan edit gets a decent reception so the studio release another cut slightly altered. hollywood..... go figure :/

The linguist who helped create the language the Engineer speaks apparently spent 17 hours helping Fassbender memorise and recite his chat with the engineer, so it's likely that the Engineer's motivations would become a whole lot clearer if it was restored in someway.

Because as it stands, we still dunno why the Engineer went on a mad rampage. Particularly when the only bit of dialogue we get between the Engineer and David is: "This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life".

Imagine if a human soldier woke up with aliens around him, he'd probably try to kill them as well :p
