My tennis club is holding a promise auction and I would like to put something into the pot.

Problem is I have got no idea what to suggest.

Does anybody know what kind of things go down well ?

I'm reasonably time poor as I have two kids under 4 so would rather limit the amount of time I put in, but don't mind spending a bit of cash to make something that works better.

So if anybody has been to one of these things - what has worked well ?

We hold such events where I work, tend to approach local businesses to see if they'd contribute, for example we have an auction soon and one local business which is a smokery, is donating a side of smoked salmon, also got a appointment with a hair dressers in the west end, tickets to sporting events, consultations with stylists etc etc.

If you have a skill which could be useful to people you could offer x number of hours of your time doing it. Or if you have any contacts with people in businesses that might supply you with either free stuff or something which will be very popular, at cost price, can be good.

But lots of what you suggest is a bit like an ordinary 'auction' type thing - side of Salmon, hair dresser appointment.

What I am wondering is where the 'promise' bit comes it... I suppose it is I will do x,y,z rather than give something of a monetary value.

I suppose I could cook someone a meal, mow their lawn etc. Or maybe my wife could clean their house in a french maids outfit !

I guess, but with this kind of thing, often the promise, is on behalf of the place supplying the item ie the smokery is promising a side of smoked salmon when the winning bidder presents a voucher.

As you mentioned, the other option is the donating of your time to do something, as mentioned, cooking, gardening or whatever.
