How often do you wait in a job before asking for new challenges?

I've got my apprasial (sp?) soon and I am hoping to become a deputy supervisor instead of a customer service assistant.

What kind of things would you need to talk about exactly?

I've been in my job for 10 months at the moment.

Im slightly lost. If you want to become a deputy supervisor tell them that straight out. Go over your stats that you have got, bring them up as much as you can, take on ad-hoc duties, support your team leader with as much as they will let you. Basicly become a jobs-worth and that will be your best chance. once your in possition you can ease up abit on the job-worthness.

I am 19 nearly 20 (Would that be offputting?)

I am waiting for the apprasial and then I will mention it then.

Not if you do you job better than everyone else. It realy depends on your company structure and what they are looking for. Most will be keen to take on young people who show lots of potentul (sp?)

Thanks.

Another quick question is what are all the stages of careers in a retail enviroment?

Is level 1 a sales assistant then level 2 deputy supervisor etc etc?

Depends on the company structure really, most places will rehash a title or have some branching off into specific areas like admin.
My experience in a well known diy store:

customer assistant
team leader
shop floor manager
customer service manager
general store manager

I'd guess a deputy supervisor would fall under team-leader from that list
