I use my PS2 slimline as a DVD player in my room, it became a bit redundant after my Xbox 360 moved in, it now appears that the disk won't spin and it doesn't read the discs when switched on, but just takes me straight to the browser of the console.

It wasn't knocked, didn't fall over or having anything unusual happen before it stopped, worked one night and not the next. Its well over a year old so a return is out. I know a new DVD player would cost about £30, its not a cheapskate thing, but i would like to get it working again if possible, anyone got any ideas?

apparently ps2 lasers are known to break, especially v12 consoles.
you can buy replacements.
however if it doesn't even spin, perhaps one of the sensors is broken / not getting pressed and the console dosnt think the lid is closed

thanks for the reply, It starts to spin now, although slowly, doesn't exactly make crunching noises but not far off it. I shall try taking it apart, clean it out, and google for the part!

doesnt matter if it's over 12 months old or not, you can still return it to the retailer under the sale of goods act ;)

Not the best plan, i work for the retailer and have no proof of purchase! never mind, will enjoy taking it apart see if i can get it going again!

Nah, after a year it becomes the manufacturers responsibility on things like electical goods.

I shall just say that is wrong. You don't buy goods from a manufacturer and so do not have to deal with them. If the shop goes via the manufacturer that is their choice.

Slightly off topic, however does the above apply for say a £2k T.V. (Sony) brought from a retailer ...... Can I just take it back, as the left speakers sound is crackinling, and a white line in the top right corner... ?

Brought 4 years ago. For £2k

Lol, I doubt it.

Can I take my SNES back and get it replaced?

thanks for e-mailing that guide, i got it and attacked my playstation with a screwdriver. It turns out the guide was for the older 'larger' playstation not the slim line one but i carried on regardless.

well who knew so many bits went into a games console! everything was taken apart, put back together and still doesn't work!

ah well, shall auction off the games and make it into a pretty looking clock!

lol! :D
