PS3 Delayed until March 2007 for Europe

The only game that would have nudged me towards getting a PS3 was Gran Turismo, fantastic driving game and I've owned 4 different versions of it on the PS and PS2.

However I do find that PGR fullfills my driving needs and with Test Drive: Unlimited winging it's way to me as we speak it's one less reason to fork out a fortune on the PS3 whenever it is released.

I do think the PS3 will be a solid, well built and rapid next gen console, I don't think that it's going to be as popular as it would have been if Sony had been honest, open and released even a token number to Europe. I think they've annoyed a lot of potential customers and infuriated some of their more loyal fan base.

I think they've really shot themselves in the foot this time, it won't be the end of Sony but they'll have a lot of catching up to do and that better hope that come Christmas 2007 they get a little festive miracle to help bring things back on track. Money is made from games, if they don't have the consoles sold and the titles on the shelves they simply can't recoup the investments that've made.

Ah well perhaps I'll get a PS4 or will I be better off getting a Xbox 720 or Wii-ii (or will it be called a wii-wii?) :p

Its amazing that Microsoft will have 2 xmas's all to themselves for the next generation console wars. I bet they never foresaw that one!

.

yea but we shall wee who the winner is over the next few years. and wonder if sony gave MS a big enough headstart - they needed it.

i wouldnt mind buying a ps3 but all i want is GT5! i dont really play any other console games apart from GT4, and tekken5/ProEvo when i have mates round...

If they had released a few PS3s over here in time for Christmas and had quite a shortage while we would be moaning about it, it would be whipping up that 'must have factor', possibly making it the most wanted prezzie for Christmas, even though no one could get one. Therefore by the time they manufactured more, Timmy's parents would all be fighting for one in the second wave. The way its going, Timmy will have a 360 or Wii at Christmas, probably want a PS3 too, but Timmy's mum isn't going to get him one.

I'm so beyond bored. It will be out when it's out. I am more than happy with my Xbox360 at the moment, I will be loving the Wii and I have a DS Lite and PSP for when I don't want to play on anything else. Thats all without my PC which is nadgered. I am looking forward to the PS3 to see what it brings, but I am willing to wait (and it's the first time I've felt like that since 1997 (Nintendo 64).

On another note, I mentioned March 2007 as the release date as an educated well over 12 months ago. Go me \o/.

Bad, bad news for Sony. Head's will surely roll.

Microsoft now have a massive chance of putting the final nail into the PS3's coffin by reducing the price of their console by around £20 before Christmas. Many of those wanting to wait for the PS3 will be unable to resist the lure of an XBOX360 rather than waiting another 7 months for the PS3.

But surely Microsoft hads the balls to launch their next generation console to the world and not excusively to 2 regions,

Not agreeing or disagreeing, just pointing out that MS used ALL standard components that have already been proofed in the mass production stakes. PowerPC, DVD Drives even the graphics chip had all been mass produced before (or similar kit anyway) making their life relatively headache free...

I agree, it was headache free, but looking at the PS3 maybe it was fantastic foresight to release a simple console and then release HD-DVD seperately.

The Xeon graphics chip was custom designed and the tri-core power PC chip was original. Unlike the XBox the 360 is far from a standard component PC.

True, but they core cpu is a tried and tested power pc, the DVD drive tech has been around for donkeys now etc. The PS3 has both the unproven cell processor with embarrasing yields, and the the curse of bluray.

The announcement not only destroys all Sonys sales targets, puts them in 3rd place behind both the "wii" and "x360" but lets not forget Blu Ray movie sales will now also be reduced to a small percentage they could have been in Europe. This could also help HD-DVD get an increased lead too, think about it.

Sonys partners are not going to be too pleased, but really is this announcement a shock, with Sony Europe always comes last and is the most expensive terrority. Can anyone really pick me 3 killer games theyd of rushed out and bought for it anyways at launch. Also expect more games to be delayed, id imagine for some this delay is a bit of breathing space.

Microsoft did deliver and continue to set the pace, you got to give them credit.

Could some kind soul point me in the direction of the origin of the Giant Crab and Massive damage thing?
Have a search of you tube, "playstation massive damage" is a good one, the PS3 conference summed up in 1 minute :)

Lol, love it. "Its based on Japanese history. And here is this giant enemy crab"

Wow real time weapon changes. How the hell did they manage that… Hitting the Giant Crabs in their weak spots for massive damage. Who would have thought that was ever possible.
I take back everything the PS3 is really pushing the envelope.

Actually what really impresses me is that the PS3 can rewrite history.

Seriously the Sony conference showed how little the gaming execs know about their product and the competitions products… Thinking about it they probably do not know much about Japanese history either.
