Looks a good update, hopefully it will fix the trophy and BT problems some have got anyway here it is,
We launched minis for PSP back in October but from the 17th December you will be able to enjoy these bite size games on your PS3 as well as your PSP. This firmware update allows the minis emulator to work on PS3 and we are working on getting the majority of the current minis ready for the PS3 from the 17th December.

Check out great titles like ‘Blast off’ (8.5/10 – IGN), ‘Fieldrunners’, “a wonderfully crafted casual nugget” (8/10 – Eurogamer) or ‘Kahoots’, “a must-buy” (8/10 – Videogamer).

If you buy a minis game from the 17th it will work on both platforms so if you have a PS3 and a PSP you will only need to buy it once and it will be available to download to your PS3 and your PSP.

If you have already bought a mini for PSP and want to get it on your PS3 as well, just go to your download list in the Store and download it again for free. The game will then work on your PS3 as well. Simple!

PS3 Data Transfer Utility

This feature enables you to easily transfer all of your saved data from one PS3 to another. So if you decide to get a new PS3 you can make sure you don’t loose any of your existing content. Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system.

1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV
2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings menu and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]
3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data
4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB
5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system

The data transfer is a great idea as its been a pain for some who have upgraded or reveived a dodgy YLOD PS3. I wonder if the PSP minis mean that a full psp emulator could be in the works for the PS3?

Oops sorry the update is out on the 10th December so its this thursday

I thought they were only bringing a few updates out a year? instead of all these tiny worthless updates.
Perhaps they had this in the works for a while and if it wasnt for the issues with the BT this would probably been released later. Of course it could be a way of Sony making it easier for people to upgrade? to a Slim in time for Christmas and to generate extra revenue for PSN from the minis.

Most updates are mandatory if you want to continue to access PSN.

This one is not though.

Hi everyone, PlayStation 3 (PS3) will receive its next system software update shortly – v. 3.15. This is an optional update, and it enables existing PS3 owners who purchase a new PS3 system (perhaps as a second unit for the household) to transfer their content from their current PS3 to the new system.Hi everyone, PlayStation 3 (PS3) will receive its next system software update shortly – v. 3.15. So am I right in thinking this backup feature will include locked game saves?

would have been handy at launch tbh. Already had to complete SF4 and Killzone 2 again since I got my slim

Does this fix the BT issue then? I don't see it in the release notes.

By BT issues... what issues?

I'm having trouble where I have to keep my pads plugged in to use them - but it's intermittent. Hope this will suss it!

Bluetooth, what you describe is part of the problem, although you are going about the wrong way in "fixing" it:

2nd time I have turned my PS3 on, via controller, today both times the controller did not sync and I had to turn the PS3 off, then on again, to fix it.

Cheers rp. Lots of things in that thread sound very similar to my problem. Again, hope this fixes it.

I emailed UBISoft about the locked saved games files as I have a PS3 (launch day console) and bought a slim 2 months ago for the bedroom (mostly for BD's and the odd game in bed) wanted to copy my Assassins Creed 2 saved game over to pen drive and slap it on the slim in the bedroom but couldn't as it was locked. Their reply was that many people sell saved game files on the bay and other places... Hence that's why they have locked saved game files.

Seems strange to me as game companies don't own the saved game files, it's the player that owns them as they have done all the work and anyone who buys saved game file has to seriously desperate to buy them just for 100% and trophies/achievements.

You can copy protected saved game files, not tried it myself but try to see if this works,
There is a documented glitch that works like this:

- say I have accounts 1,2,3,4.
- If I initiate backup using account 1, then when I restore to a second PS3 I get accounts 2,3,4 restored normally and not 1. (my comment: by "normally" he means with no copyprotection restrictions!)
- If I initiate backup using account 3, then a restore works fine for account 1,2,4.
- so to get around it, create account tester or whatever name you want.
- use it to initiate backup.
- go to new ps3, create tester1 (must be different from all account names on original ps3). - Then use it to restore.
- Then delete it.

easy as pie. I have personally done it 3 times. 1 swapped ps3 from Sony, one sold and bought a new one, one was a friend's he swapped it for a Sony one.

You will have to re download all PSN games, game patches... But your videos, music and all saves and themes, settings, even account icons will be intact.

I did not have a KZ2 save then, but I had LBP. And I was able to continue getting trophies. The one game whose save did not backup was High Velocity Bowling.

It also seems that protected files can be moved using the transfer just not copied, so the original PS3 will loose the save game.

No, if your PS3 is YLOD you cannot turn it on so cannot use the data transfer utility.

The only advantage with this is that you don't need an external drive to copy the data.
