Ps3 repair out of warranty

Ring Sony first and see if they'll do it for nowt, he might get lucky.
If not, then see how much Sony want to charge for repair, it depends what the problem is tbh.

Whats the problem? If its YellowLightOfDoom he could try a self repair, Which would require a heatgun. There are videos up on the web, I've repaired a few myself(6+ months ago) and they're still going strong today

Also if its a diode gone in the cd\bluray drive, He could look into buying the part off the bay and replacing it himself. I've never done this before, but its apparently easy to do.

After 2 years I would imagine it'd be a phone call to sony and paying out for a repair

It's a shame the continuous play scheme was killed off, £5 a month is a fair price for peace of mind once the warranty is expired. I'd certainly have signed up this month, but the abusers ruined it for everyone.
It's a shame they've not figured out a way to bring it back.

Mine broke and it was a year out of warranty. Rang up and they said fax a proof of purchase. Next day DPD turned up to collect it. The worse you would get is a no or a quote on the price for repair, otherwise try a self repair.

I had yellow light of death.

Console was well out of warranty, so paid 129.00 for an RMA of exactly the same 60GB launch model. Happy with it, looks new, gave it to my son and bought the slim.

Freakin love PS3, total fanboi, it's pretty much my media hub.

Never had a 360, but they are so cheap at the mo thinking of getting one anyway. Forgive me Mr Sony.
