Decided to switch out my drive on my PS3 Slim. Decided to use the backup and restore tool.. What I wasn't expecting was how long it would all take..

The backup took about 2-3hrs, but the restore took the biscuit with 10hrs to restore..

This was on around 100gig of data..

Also the machine was running horribly slow at first. Like it took a min or two to start up Fifa10 (seems fine now) but definately need to do some more testing..

Also for those with a slim, remember that the Firmware chip is no longer, so you'll also need a USB pen with the latest firmware downloaded from the sony website.. and you need to have it in the correct folder structure. PS3\PS3UPDATE (i think off the top of my head) Wasn't expecting that after swapping out HD's two or three times previously on old phat's of mine.

Anyway, anyone else experience such long restore times?

Restore times are horrific indeed, i can only assume this is due to it using compression/encryption of some sort. I ended up cancelling my several hour long one, deleting all game installs and PSStore downloads and then restarting it. I figured (and wager i was correct in doing so) that redownloading/resintalling games would be quicker than restoring them.

Not really that long but i removed all the game data, PSN stuff and my own music/pics, so it didnt have to copy as much over.

I did my brothers yesterday but was a new machine so didn't need to backup. Just t o clarify for anyone reading this and looking at doing it, the folder structure for the firmware is {USB Device}PS3\UPDATE\{new firmware}

Just to save anyone some confusion when trying this. ;)
