hi guys,
My little brother has just arrived in New York and i told him to keep an eye out for a PS3 for me. He just text me there now and Virgin Megastores have them in stock at $599 thats only £305?

I dont know what to do, i know the games are region free but the blu-ray isnt, and another thing is the console will be ntsc and i was wondering will it be ok on my CRT tv, its fairly new however i do plan on upgrading to an lcd or plasma soon anyway. I also have a projector that projects an 88" screen onto my wall ;) and it has component in, vga and normal video inputs.

Really dont know what to do i can potentially save myself £150 or so on the uk price.

what do you guys think on this one

Asking to buy a ps3 or not on a ps3-hating forum.....I think the result is already known.

I have one and i would encourage you to buy one if you have the funds. :)

Weren't you back playing Pro Evo on your PS2 the other day?

Says it all. :o ;)

OP - just wait. Have you thought about warranty? i doubt you'll be able to get a US PS3 fixed in the UK if it went wrong.

It's out here in little over a month too.

Without a warranty you are not saving anything if it goes wrong.
Its to much money to risk without a warranty.
I would wait and get a uk one in march

If you want the console, buy it. If you don't, don't buy it!? You've obviously decided you kinda want one and you might aswell save £150 on it while you can. Be careful how you get it back here though you don't want tax vat etc. whacked on it!

We don't hate it, well I certainly don't, I just don't like some peoples ignorant view of the PS3 being the master and above all the rest, looking at the games, and what it offers over the competition.

For £305 that's actually a decent price, well more worth it compared to the £425 price tag, but will you be content on constantly buying over NTSC games and possibly NTSC blu-ray discs? (edit: it looks like you don't really have to)

I might be tempted at that price but as it has already been pointed out it's a big risk to buy it w/o a warranty.

The UK launch line up looks very good so as far as games go there should be some decent ones come march.

I also own a PS3 and would advise against getting one unless you've got the money burning a hole in your pocket. If you've got a spare 300 quid doing nothing then go for it, but don't go out of your way to get the funds together or anything.

I have a PS3 and I suggest you get one. Unless for some insane reason you want to pay more for one on a U.K. one when it is released.

UK version costs only £120 more plus 1 year warranty & plays UK movies.

Is the saving of £120 worth the hassle? It's your choice.

What the hell does that have to do with anything... I have a PS3 but I still play PS2, PSP, PC and Wii...!!! If you're a gamer then you're a gamer. I think Raz's comment was bound to get flamed but if you're gonna do it at least make a valid point.

OP, do you know anyone who lives in the USA? If you don't then I seriousley wouldn't bother getting one as if it karks it then you're screwed and all you have to show for it is a very big shiny black paperweight. If you do know someone in the US then you could send it to them to send back under warranty - granted postage each way wont be cheap but it's better than kissing the £305 goodbye.

all very good points guys thanks for all your input on this one, still not sure what to do?

I the kinda guy that if i see a game i like i want there and then i couldnt do it with this console, on the other hand i would be amoung a small group of people who actually have one before the release date here and plus i would save a tidy sum of money?

Thats quite funny i had someone asked a similar question to me once on MSN. When they seen me playing RS:V on the 360, even though i owned a PS3. Don't see why you can't jump around all your consoles.
I have all 3 next gen consoles and at the moment my fav console game is Guitar hero, go figure lol

Anyway to the OP. If you have the money, there really isn't anything to lose i suppose if you did buy it. If you where gonna get one at launch in the UK.
The only problem is, BluRay isn't region free for movies  my only complaint about that format, and quite possibly could be its downfall
