PS4 to sell 12m units by the end of 2014?

everywhere that gets stock sells out in a matter of days, if not hours.

Except where they don't, that is. Availability has been fairly good so far it seems, as is obvious by the fact that people aren't having to hunt all over the country to try to find stock. Nobody who wants one seems to be having much of a struggle getting one.

Except they still are, Gamestop got some in yesterday around half 5, they now are out of stock again. Amazon US yesterday got a ton in stock and are now sold out again.

Yes different stores are getting restocked all the time, but they are still selling out extremely fast after they do.

Interesting sales data.

There's much celebration to be had at Sony HQ right now....PS4 is outpacing PS1, PS2, and PS3 at this time.

Do you really, really think that they'd even be contemplating retiring a brand they've spent years building up, just three months after launching a new console? You people act like nobody has bought one at all.

retiring no, selling off or spinning off to stand on its own two legs maybe. change at the top can make some odd things happen.

the worrying thing is the lack of movement from ms over a kinect less bundle so they could at least get a cheaper price point without discounting it. its the obvious thing to do, everyone is saying it should happen but ms are staying tight lipped over it.

but who knows they may keep throwing money at it for another generation and a half to see if they can beat sony out completely.

another thing though if ms dont listen a bit more like they did post e3 and xbone show last year its going to get worse for them.

apparently sonys factories can ship 1 million units a month in total combined

that is why stock is being replenished all the time and sony are managing to allocate stock to countries efficiently by giving more to where the larger demand/sales are.

sales are still very high though as you can see and i can see them being stable for the rest of the year.

MS though, I don't see them selling more than 6 million by the end of the year without a price cut, Sony should have sold around 12 million by then.

Gamestop are priced £20 under RRP, of course they're going to sell out.

As I'm sure I've said before, the store I work at has had 4 for about 2 weeks now. If the demand was so high and supply so low that people were desperate for them, they wouldn't still be sitting there.

What's "worrying" about it? There is zero chance of them saying anything about a Kinect-less SKU just three months after they launched the console bundled with Kinect. They'd alienate the early-adopters and completely undermine their own strategy and marketing campaign. MS want Kinect to very-much be part of the Xbox One experience, not an optional extra.

So explain how Amazon sold out in less than a day? Amazon would have had a large shipment, it was well over 1000.

Using your one shop as an example of demand is a flawed argument.

Even looking at the stock checker, the only places with stock are selling forced bundles.

what store do you work for?

or more importantly are they selling the console on it's own or in a bundle?

bundles are readily available everywhere, consoles on their own tend to be selling out as soon as stock arrives.

also as stated before your location probably isn't an ideal one.

Bundles are easier to come by it is true. I'd find it very hard to argue with someone who said that a PS4 + Killzone or Knack is not a PS4 though. Forced bundles, give me a break.

Show me on the stock informer link where any of the in stock stores are just selling the PS4+Knack or PS4+Killzone? There's one, Zavvi, the others are forcing non standard bundles.

its worrying from a stand point of shifting more units without having to discount them down and make a loss on the unit. ms can throw all the pr they want about kinect but like the wii u pad and the ps4's camera its a gimmick. and a costly one at that it seems.

sure its got a few nice features but for a console that you buy to game on its rather pointless for now. so why not just swallow their pride and release a kinect less box and be done with it to up sales a chunk.

if ms wont do it through pride and the idea they know what gamers want i can only see this getting worse for them and expensive when they start to discount them to try and shift more.

You said "everywhere that gets stock sells out in days or hours". I've told you that isn't true, based on the fact that the four we've had for a week and a half or more are still there. Again, if demand was so monstrous and stock so hard to come by, we'd have sold them, had people come from the nearest large city to get them or be told by HO to return them so they can send them where they're needed. This hasn't happened.

I'm not saying the PS4 isn't in demand, by the way, but you're blowing it out of proportion for some reason.

Asda, two solo consoles, a Knack bundle and a Killzone bundle. The location doesn't really matter because of the reason I stated above; granted if we were in a large city I'm sure they'd have gone within days, but people are able to travel between places if required. We're not a thousand miles away from civilisation, if all the stores in Aberdeen had no stock people would gladly drive 30 miles to come and get one if it was necessary.

There are a lot of retailers missing from that site, so there's no point treating it as gospel.

SI isn't the be-all-and-end-all (though I do use it too). I find it a bit hit and miss.

Argos around here have stock on and off. Wrexham, Cheshire Oaks, St. Helens, Bromborough, Chester. Don't get me wrong they come and go but you can get hold of them if you want them badly enough.

Rarely console only though. KZ or Knack normally.

I don't think people would mind bundles if they were given an option of choosing the game or games from any.

Put it this way I have 3 games I have bought atm and they are Fifa, BF4 and Lego, none of which were offered when I have looked.

Not interested in killzone or knack so why would i pay extra for something i don't want then make a loss on when i sell it on?

Consoles imo should never be sold in bundles, it's just retailer greed, unless of course the bundle is hugely discounted which in most cases they aren't, I think at launch there was a couple of decent bundles but only if you liked killzone, etc.

none of them had games i liked/wanted.

stock isn't an issue imo, it's the type of stock retailers are pushing.

if they got rid of bundles their would be zero supply issues, the bundles are creating a false sense of demand, but i think that is actually working in sonys favour with it hard to find solo consoles in most places and them selling out fast there is hype there.

The pre-packaged bundles are created by Sony, I don't see how you can blame the retailer for that. The Killzone bundle is £385, so that's £36 for the game when it's £45 on Amazon. That's a decent enough saving, I'd say, although obviously the more time that passes, the lower that saving is because the game will drop in price while the bundle probably won't.

stock wise around here in game are ok according to my cousin, this is north manchester btw. so oldham, bolton, rochdale and bury all seem to have stock.

gamestop i can imagine with their online price is probably the main one who will get shortages. again will depend how good your local stores are and what deals they have.

those 2 bundles are fine, it's Zavvi that really take the ****, at one point they had a £1000 bundle at launch iirc
