PS4 to sell 12m units by the end of 2014?

Love how you doubt any info that suggests MS are doing well....the software info comes direct from NPD, same as the console sales info. So either it is right or wrong, you cant pick the bits that suit your Pro Sony/Anti MS stance

James. Do you know what Xbox* means?
It means "This text is misleading, so check the small print".

James are you purposefully trying to not understand to try and troll me, or are you genuinely having difficulty interpreting this MS PR?
If you are truly finding this difficult, no worries. This is what MS's PR machine is paid to do. To confuse & mislead people as much as possible to believe something positive about MS, but without actually lying in order to avoid litigation (legal action). Some times MS blatantly lies, and MS just get sued like with Surface.

When it comes to slippery PR, you need to be able to think critically.

Watch from 4:10. (not safe for work)

That's kind of the point though, it looks like they've been beat or at least matched in their number 1 target territory the US. So with Sony's number 1 market still to come it's going to boost their overall sales figure hugely.

I've just seen a new article though that says MS are winning on the software side and software is usually what brings in the profit rather than just the console itself.

LOL, where do you get MS are winning on the software side from? Its not even close! The PR included 360 and One, software is outselling on PS4 massively at the minute.

So Sony get these games for free to give away? really, oh wait it was Sonny that posted it.

There's plenty of ways for MS and Sony to pay for things from publishers without actually handing any money over.

Did Microsoft steal your lunch money or something? You're embarrassing yourself so please, it's time to stop now.

Yes, its embarrassing to point out when someone is factually being incorrect.

MS fanboys are getting proven time and time again that Sony is doing well at everything basically and they cannot take it.

Sales of consoles in this early stage are crucial because if more people adopt one console over the other, the masses then look to what others have bought. much like the iphone hype, oh so and so has an iphone and it's fantastic, i must get one, etc, etc.

cue3d then said how come the PS3 managed to pull it back over time i then said they launched a year apart MS was always going to have a lead, but over time people realised 360's died all the time and sony consoles were pretty much bulletproof in comparison and on par in terms of power.

i'm a neutral fan and i have owned practically every console made, master system, mega drives, every PS, both older xbox's and a wii. never owned a N64 or snes so i have tended to avoid nintendo systems over any other, in fact if it wasn't for the wii i would never of owned one.

the wii was all hype, it's sales mean nothing, i used mine for a month or two before it sat in a box gathering dust before i eventually gave it away. wii was probably the worst console of last gen yet it outsold both due to hype. this time sony has hype in their corner, everyone is buzzing about them.

every factor is important and i can only see one factor in MS's favour and probably around 10 in Sonys favour. the only factor in the MS camp is the exclusives they can get a hold of, that is the only advantage they have, everything else is all Sony, price, power, PSN Plus service, build quality and reliability (going on past consoles), sales, availability (selling in more regions), hype, etc, etc.

MS can only win this war by slashing prices now.

I expect a price cut within 6 months and a rather large one, possibly £100. They will then need to re-imburse initial buyers with free games to their accounts, either that release one without kinect and then they essentially are dooming kinect to death then if they go down that route, it will save them more money doing that though, cutting their losses and abandoning it.

Either way losing kinect or not the price has to come down for MS to stand a chance in this war. I think Nintendo will have to concede defeat and stick to handhelds. MS can turn it around but I don't think Nintendo can, they should just sell their games to both rivals from now on.

Has anyone actually said Sony arent doing well? Or are you just making it up? No one is denying Sony have sold a ton of consoles and games.

What you seem to be missing is that MS has also sold a ton of console and games. Is really isnt that hard to comprehend.

It seems to be the Sony fanboys that froth at the mouth about any MS news and that is factually correct. Just look at all the posts from PS4 users complaining about a console most of them dont have.

The Xbox One is doing well, the games are great and new features have already been added by this weeks update.

I have my PS4 getting delivered today but likely will plug it in, let it update and go back to playing Titanfall beta.

It is all about the games and in my opinion MS have the better games just now.

They have done it in the past, sold consoles at a huge loss to gain market share.

Don't see why they can't again MS aren't as poor as Sony.

I reckon they could knock £100 off easily if they ditch kinect.

They're not going to take such drastic action so soon after launch, when they've still got various system-selling games and features still to release. A price cut isn't the only solution here.

I'm really not sure why people think MS need to take swift and immediate action to gain a surge in sales. There will obviously be a long-term plan in place here.

Well the article must have been wrong then as it said overall MS are at an advantage with software. Like I said, it didn't say if it was over the 360 as well but I imagine it must have been, as there's no way XB1 software alone can be beating PS4.

For me it's all about the exclusives and apart from Ryse, I'd say my taste in gaming lean towards PS4 exclusives. I know I'll end up getting both but I'll probably get the PS4 first.

This. There'll be XB1 games I want to play, I'll probably wait for the 1st revision of the XB1 without Kinect before buying one though.

The article likely said Xbox* or 'Xbox family' (meaning XB1 + XB 360).
If anything, it's interesting to see how people fall for such PR tricks.
To the people who can see through it though, it tells them the numbers were so bad, and the consequences so bad if they lied, that they basically refused to talk any relevant numbers.

Just out of curiosity, does NPD release Europe numbers as well as US?
The only numbers I'v seen so far are just what VGcharts estimates...

can anyone post the actual NPD data in here?

i can't find it on their site.

Microsoft aren't divulging their sales figures for the first time ever which is why there arent numbers for hardware. There is only an estimate that XB1 sold about 130k to PS4s 280k.

"With that said, let’s take a look at the best-selling games of January.

Software
Call of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PC)
NBA 2K14 (PS4, 360, Xbox One, PS3, PC)
Battlefield 4 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Wii U, PC)
Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
Madden NFL 25 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
Minecraft (360)
FIFA 14 (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, 360, Vita)
Lego Marvel Super Heroes (360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, 3DS, Wii U, Vita, PC)
Tomb Raider (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
It’s interesting to note that the PS4 version is outselling the Xbox One version for each one of the above games except for Call of Duty: Ghosts and Lego Marvel Super Heroes. That led Microsoft to point out that Xbox One and Xbox 360, when taken together, are responsible for the most software sales.

“January NPD Group figures released today revealed [that] Xbox systems sold the most games across all console platforms in January with*2.27 million units sold, making up*47 percent*of software market share,” Microsoft marketing boss Yusuf Medhi wrote. “Fans continue to show their excitement for new-generation Xbox One games, with U.S. consumers purchasing an average of*2.7 games*per console since launch.”

Of course, that’s for both current- and last-gen games. When only looking at the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it looks like Sony has a distinct edge."

I really hate console war stuff but interestingly I've had numerous people ask me about the new consoles (mostly casuals who don't read up on game related topics) and almost all of them said they had 'heard' that the Xbox One is more a more powerful system.

So every single person I know who purchased an Xbox One did so through misinformation or simply because they had a 360 and just bought the One without looking at the market.

I want both to do well because I have concerns over the gaming industry in general so for any to fail is going to make things worse.

It seems a bit of a concern if MS are relying on those kinds of things to gain sales - but obviously I can only speak from what I've seen around me

I want to see both consoles do well but I think Sony deserves the increased sales that it is getting because it is the better console and they actually cared for the gamers from the start, unlike MS who ignored them right up to the point that they were not getting pre-orders.

I also feel that MS could have made a lot better console had they not gone down the jack of all trades route and put so much into the Kinnect which tbh is a waste of time - I can't imagine anyone has actually bought an Xbone for that.

But at the end of the day I have both consoles, I enjoyed playing the Titanfall Beta and look forward that and the other MS exclusives over the years ahead.

As for the Wii U, the sooner Ninendo ditch that the better, the worst console I have ever owned :(
