PS4 to sell 12m units by the end of 2014?

how many do you think will be sold in Japan this weekend?

they sold 1 million in NA and 700,000 in europe on launch day/weekends iirc.

Japanese people have had more time to save up than the rest of us, they are their most loyal market and they will most likely sell every console that ships there. it's just a question of how many do you think Sony has managed to save up for release.

i'm gonna say around 500,000 units

500k is a pretty safe number I think.

This will really be when we find out the the state of the home console market in Japan. Many think it is fading away as the Japanese have a major obsession with handhelds. We'll have to wait and see how the PS4 does there.

for 1 country alone?

if anything a safe number would be around 350K, half of what europe sold.

I don't understand!

he said 500K is a safe number, imo it's not a safe number it's quite optimistic because Japan is 1 small country and Europe a whole continent managed 700K (albeit only released in major countries within europe).

therefore a safe number for Japan would be around half that 350K not 500K.

I meant a safe number for Sony to actually put on the shelves for launch, it will probably be a struggle to sell that many, but who knows

So much facepalm.

and the numbers keep flying, looks like sony could very well hit that 12 million sales by year end.

Sony has announced it's sold more than 5.3m PlayStation 4 units around the world.

It had forecasted it would shift 5m before the end of the current financial year, which ends on 31st March, so PS4 is way ahead of schedule.

The sales update comes just a few days before the PS4 goes on sale in Japan, where it's expected to sell out. It went on sale in Europe on 29th November 2013.

"I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season," said Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House.

"We are delighted that according to the NPD Group's latest data, PS4 was January's top-selling console in the United States. The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans.

"February 22 sees the launch of PS4 in Japan, and I'm looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4."

As of 24th January, Microsoft had shipped 3.9m Xbox One units globally. PS4 sold nearly double the Xbox One in the US last month, but Microsoft Xbox One is selling over twice as fast as its predecessor, the Xbox 360.

would be interesting if ms would release actual sold xbone numbers rather than just shipped.

when are MS planning on selling in more countries/regions?

it doesn't look like they are taking this fight seriously or they haven't planned it at all. anyone know of any of their release dates for the future?

honestly not got a clue as to when they will release in more countrys, but the way they are going its like they have either given up. or the new ceo has made them stall while they work out if its worth continuing with the xbox brand.

They havn't stalled on anything, the release dates for other territories was always about April time and throughout the year, and next year.

I would say theirs at least 500k units sitting in Japan to go for sale, wouldn't have a clue how many they could sell, but their will be a huge waiting list im willing to bet.

Do you really, really think that they'd even be contemplating retiring a brand they've spent years building up, just three months after launching a new console? You people act like nobody has bought one at all.

there are no release dates at all from what i can see for tier 2 countries. MS don't believe it will sell well either in those countries so tbh i don't know what they are doing.

As much as i think they won't give up, it doesn't fill you with hope and confidence if they haven't managed to sort out release dates by now. Surely that's the first thing they would do? Also retailers would need to know about these dates so info would have surely leaked by now if it was launching any time soon?

If they aren't pushing sales in other regions then what is their plan?

it's like a movie where sony has managed to place a double agent within MS to ruin the XB1, I hope they get their act together because Sony completely owning them is going to be bad for us, I want sony to beat them, but not so badly they give up, sony need the PS4 to win overall to help the company as a whole that's why i want them to win so they survive but I don't want MS to die so we have competition.

both companies need to stay.

I wonder how many Sony would have sold if they could supply more stock, everywhere that gets stock sells out in a matter of days, if not hours. If they could keep supply up with demand I'm sure they would be at around 6 million or more by now.
