Not in a good mood this morning.

Went to change the game in my PSP, and when I opened the UMD holster on the back, it kinda came off completely.

I've looked at it, and managed to half get it back on, but i'm not sure if it will work, bit worried to try it in case I make it worse.

Where do I stand on this? I've had a look on the Sony site but it's unclear. Is there any way I can get it replaced or should I get it repaired?

I've had the console itself since the month of release.

Thanks in advance.

You should still be able to take it back to the retailer for repair/replacement under the Sale of Goods Act.

Even though it was bought that long ago - looking on the net it says September 2005? I have the reciept and everything, all the boxes, etc.

I called sony, the asked when I bought it, told them I couldn't remeber about 6 months ago . They had someone out the next day with a new (refurb) psp, no questions asked just replaced :p

Give them a phone!

The analogue stick on my psp broke after 8 months, i took it back to *my local high street gaming store* that i bought it from and they told me that everyday wear and tear wasn't covered and they won't replace it.

I politely informed them that 'everyday wear and tear' is not an excuse to cover up bad design.

I took it apart myself and fixed it faster than they ever could. I believe you can buy replacement disk compartments and fix them relatively easily, try that if you get no luck from Sony or your retailer.

Popped on the phone to Sony, they took the serial number and then could tell when it was made, and even when/where it was sold!!

Turns out it is out of warranty, so they offered to replace it with a refurb for £85.

Hmm.

their about 70-80 pounds in america brand new for the price their trying to sell u a refurb for :S

if mine ever breaks like that ill put mr alex firmware on it and get some one in america to send a new one for the refurb price.

Do you think it would sell if I advertised it as broken and adjusted the price accordingly?

A lot of people will buy broken PSP's so they can sell the parts individually, although you really wont get much for it.

Should still be covered under the SOGA - the goods have to be 'fit for purpose' and last for a resonable length of time. So obviuosley this can vary from item to item but you would expect a PSP to last longer than 2 years so therefore you can argue it has a design fault or was inherantly faulty at the time of sale.

There are a lot more peeps on this forum who know a fair bit about the SOGA on these forums, and there have been quite a few threads previously - might be worth doing a search!

If you really don't want to go down the SOGA road then google PSPTree as they do repairs at a reasonable price.
