Hi Guys,

I've been having this problem with my PC in that once its turned on I can hear a faint buzzing sound, very high pitched, coming from the PSU. It seemed to be coming from the PSU and gradually became worse the longer the PC had been running for. It also seemed to be 'activated' once scrolling on webpages. I removed all fans one by one and PCI cards and eventually removed the graphics card. Without the graphics card it seemed to be fine but I could not view the screen for any error messages or to see whether windows had loaded.

Anyway after a little research on the web I found the cure to the problem. I went into the BIOS and turned off C1E support, Intel speedstep and Intel C-State Tech. I think the main factor that makes the noise come back is Intel SpeedStep. Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

Does anyone know if any of these options need to be turned on?
Will they damage my Core i5 or mobo.

Thanks.

Dandaman, are you a BlackOps player?

I know your name...

What PSU do you have?

I have the exact same thing, its strange. its like the OLD Hard drives, when under stress they made a racket, something in my PC, Very High pitch, when i scroll a web page for EG it crackles.

mast3r,

I'm on the PS3 network but I don't play Black Ops at the moment.

I've got the Artic Power 700 Watt PSU, bought from ****** (as a replacement for A OCZ PSU with a similar problem.

I've managed to contact ****** and they've said they will repair but not refund the item.

I think the source of the problem is the cheap capacitors inside the unit which when under stress they 'scream' or 'squeal' at very high sound frequencies.

Its strange, apparently because the new 'Eco' PSU's are very sensitive to voltage variations coming from the mains.

I've installed a 3 year old unit into my PC that seems to be OK.
