Hi guys, I have this power supply and am at a bit of a loss as to why every so often it buzzes. I am 95% certain it is not defective as having looked on corsair's forums there are many, many people who have RMA'd even switching to different brands and still have the same problem.

The buzzing will start seemingly randomly and is just about tolerable- it will remain even if i shut down, stopping when I switch the psu off at the socket, starting again when it is switched back on, even if I plug into a different wall socket. Then just as randomly it will stop. It is coming from inside the PSU.

Checked all connections, this corsair is a replacement for a crappy colors 750 watt that caused a buzzing at my 5850 when watching bink video or doing other graphics related tasks. It is putting accurate voltage down the lines.

There are a couple of things i think it may be;
1. Dodgy power from the grid or my house- tempted to buy an ac powerline noise filter and try this out but we live in the UK- surely the PSU should be able to deal with this?
2. Dodgy component- going to begin trouble shooting components once I make the move into another case (buying a full aftermarket air cooling setup and another case and moving the rig into that).

Was just wondering in the meantime if anyone had any thoughts?

Does it buzz constantly when after turned off or only for a couple of seconds - if its only seconds, my guess is it has something to do with a capacitor inside the PSU

Can you stop the noise by pressing around the PSU or case - to see if its just vibration
Does the buzzing start when your GPU and/or CPU is under load?

Buzzing carries on for a good while after shutdown, way more than a few seconds, long enough for my to switch it off, unplug and plug into a different socket and still buzz constantly.

Its defo not vibration as it is an electrical noise coming from within the PSU.

As per loads- no it doesnt not correspond to starting everest stressing or furmark however just recently I had my dvd drive make a rather dodgy electrical noise which was also very loud, will unplug next shutdown and see how I go.

I also notice my keyboard lights stay on after shutdown for a very long time- is this normal?

Are you sure its not the fan - if it isnt then I suspect it can only be residual energy stored in the capacitors - as the AC current to the supply is off.

Over the years I've had lights that stay on for a while even if the supply is turned off - again this is most likely charge dissipating from the PSU. My card reader light stays on perminently if the supply is on (when the PC is off)

With you on the lights issue Scotty, and thanks for the input. Positive it is not the fan as it carries on after shutdown and fan powerdown.

My thoughts are such;

- its just bedding it (say there is a dodgy connection in one of the coils that the buzzing is happening at and my thought it this will burn out over time)
- my dvd drive is a few years old, and has recently been making a completley random buzzing noise that really does not sound healthy, has only happened a few times, dont use DVD's too much nowadays, so I am about to unplug it and see how I go.
- my mobo (a new asrock m3agmh790) is something to do with it.
- cool and quiet drivers are doing it- there is already an issue with the intel power saving bios options on the corsair forums.
- the fact i am powering it off a very basic gang socket- this is the one I most suspect, my suspicion is that at some points it is feeding dodgy power into the machine, and the poor psu is having to work overtime to correct it. Note I am drawing far more power through the gang socket that I think its designers suspected it may be used for- full stero system, pc (with amd 965, sapphire 5850 and all the trimmings) and monitor. Am tempted to buy one of the monster power supply sockets (surge protection plus ac power line noise reduction) and see how that goes. Do you think that might help- it is expensive but given the kit I have just bought and its useful lifetime worth it maybe?

Like I say I am set on it not being the psu- it is working too well in all other areas for it to be this plus I have never heard of such a buzzing being solved my RMA excent in a very, very few cases.

Hi, i know this is a while since you posted this problem, but I have recently bought a Corsair HX750 about 4 days ago, once it's running there is no problem but when I shut down the computer I can hear a high pitch frequency noise coming from the PSU, i have heard that it could be just bedding in, I want to know if your problem went on its own or if you had to RMA it.

My problem sounds excatly like yours and no vibrations are causing this sound to appear :/

Thanks, Ryan. :)

That's coil whine, it's common on many PSUs.
