Managed to pick up a nice PC at cost but I am concerned over the PSU. The base spec is as follows:

Chassis NEC Micro Tower PSU AutoSwitch 250W Black
Motherboard : VeraCruz i945G µATX Video-LAN-Audio
Intel Pentium D 945 3.4GHz / 2x2MB cache / FSB 800MHz
1GB DDR2-533 SDRAM (1x1GB)
160GB SATA 2 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive
DVD+R9 Dual Layer Writer
Integrated 10/100/1000 Network Controller
Intel GMA 950 up to 224MB shared memory Integrated Video Controller (VGA Output)
105 Keys PS2 Keyboard QWERTY - English
2 buttons+wheel PS2 Optical Mouse
Free Dos operating system - English
1 Year OnSite D+1 European

To this I am adding a X1800XT. Plus another couple of Hard drives. (one SATA and one IDE)

My concern is that the PSU will not be able to take the extra strain - is my concern unfounded or is it a new case/PSU.

Am not bothered if it is as so far the whole package has only cost me £450 plus VAT - but its just the extra hassle - thoughts much appreciated.

If I were you I would purchase a good reliable PSU especially if your going to add an X1800XT GFX card to your rig, I'm not sure the 250W PSU would cope!

I would go for something over 400W just for peace of mind ;)

Think you'll find the box says ' 400W minimum '.

Quite frankly, if you don't change the PSU, don't expect to have much chance of it working.

My system (see sig) runs on a 500W Liberty but its had a 400W version in there to which worked fine (was testing friends hardware).

It might work but you will be very much on the edge and for the sake of peace of mind I'd buy another PSU, that is assuming that you can find a suitable one. Also have you made sure that an X1800XT will fit in? They are quite big cards I believe.

If you have doubts about it then usually there is no chance it'll be totally safe. I would always pay more knowing that half my system won't be taken down when the PSU decides to die.
