Ptches / mods for games bought on Steam

Am tempted to get fallout 3 on steam...but I got a coupla questions first. Will be grateful for any wisdom.

Was wondering how patches work for the Steam downloaded games...does Steam distribute patches when they are released or do you patch normally as if you had bought the game on physical medium?

Also what about mods? Does the steam version either prevent or make more complicated the installation of mods?

- As soon as they get a patch, it get patched auto on Steam. (Depending on settings one when you download, idle/in-game etc.
- Depends on the game, but can be.

Fallout 3 gets patches via the Windows Live system on Steam as well as the normal retail copy.

If theres a patch out, it normally downloads and applies when you run the game.

If Fallout 3 is like all the other Steam games it gets its own little space in the Steam directory. Depending on how Steam installs the game adding mods and conversions may be trickier but I don't see why it couldn't be done

I've run mods on GTA:VC and SA plus HL2 (of course).

Don't seem to be any additional difficulties.

I've installed many a mod for HL2 and UT2k4 on Steam, and have never had any problems.
