anybody else not work fridays (i do mon to thu evenings)
how is work dealing with the extra public holday ?
should it be a case of "it dosnt matter you get it off anyway"
or "you can have a differant day off "
just wondering as our day workers are of course getting the wedding day ,we feel on evenings we should also get something

Not sure on this. If christmas day is on a weekend, you get an extra bank holiday on the next weekday, but I don't know if it's different as it's a new holiday and it's not at on a normal weekend..

What do you do, anyway?

But thats because its Christmas and they always move the bank holiday as Saturday is technically not a 'working day'. A friday is. If you are off, you are not entitled to it. What your work does is entirely different!

Depends on company policy. Some companies will give you a day in lieu, some will make you take leave on bank holidays, some will give you a days holiday, some will give you a days pay etc etc.

If I'm not contracted to work on a bank holiday then I don't expect to get extra leave because it's not in my contract but some companies I've worked for have offered an alternate day off instead.

I work odd shifts and if a bank holiday falls on a day when I happen to be off, I get a day of annual leave returned as if I'd worked it. Our annual leave is calculated as 27 days + 8 days bank holiday leave, so if we work a bank holiday we get a day off in lieu - this is working for the NHS, and it'll vary greatly depending on your company policy. Check with your boss/payroll.

Public and bank holidays
You do not have a statutory right to paid leave on bank and public holidays. If your employer gives paid leave on a bank or public holiday, this can count towards your minimum holiday entitlement. There are eight permanent bank and public holidays in England and Wales (nine in Scotland and ten in Northern Ireland).

If you work on a bank or public holiday, there is no automatic right to an enhanced pay rate. What you get paid depends on your contract of employment.

If you are part time and your employer gives workers additional time off on bank holidays, this should be given pro rata to you as well, even if the bank holiday does not fall on your usual work day.

Also bear in mind that the extra bank holiday doesn't necessarily mean you'll get paid for it if you take the time off. It's up to your contract check with HR would be my advice.

I'm sure there is something about public holidays are defined in your contract of employment, and as such, it will vary company to company.
