I'm finding it rather difficult getting a quote on a Puma 1.7i.

I know they are group 12, but I wouldn't have thought they were a high risk car really.

I'm 19, 1 NCB and it seems only admiral can insure me for less than £2k fully comp.

Anybody else have a 1.7 puma and are around my age group? Who are you insured with?

Thanks.

Give Bell a try with your parents on the policy as named drivers. They have given the best quotes for a fair few people I know including my brother and myself.

Even at 19 dude insurance on a group 13 maybe still a bit of a pain, remember its a lottery on where you live etc..

Im still paying £1600 F/C on a 95bhp Group 5 Mini

I got my Puma when I was 22 (2001) with 0 no claims and the cheapest insurance premium then was £1,200
Your age is totally against you so I doubt you'll get it cheaper.

Either you buy a much lower Insurance Group car or you pay the high cost for insurance.

It's dependant on insurer and area. I insured my Mondeo at 19. It was Group 12 with modifications declared. I paid £1200 TPFT.

Thats TPFT... you will get a cheaper quote there, you're bound to pay more F/C

Not £800 more. Comprehensive was an extra £300 IIRC, and the next year I moved to Comp, aged 20, and paid.. £1100.

Again area could effect that... as well as his age... a year 19-21 does make a lot of difference..

To be honest. Looked at the 2.0 Focus Zetec instead digitalwolf? I found I got much cheaper quotes over the 1.7 Puma. For example I got £1000 fully comp at 19 and 1ncb for the 2.0 Focus.

I was thinking about the focus but does the focus handle aswell as a Puma?

I've had a go in my mates 1.7 puma and was impressed. It was pretty nippy & handled pretty well.

Focus will probably be more solid that a Puma, I've always been under the impression the Pumas are riddled with problems.

All I know is they are pretty much fiesta's. Isn't the 1.7 Puma's chassis/suspension based on the Fiesta Zetec S?

I believe so, yes.

You'll get stung whatever. The car is a coupe. Coupes cost more to insure because (I suppose) of the sportier image they convey.

For instance, I'm looking at BMW 3 series coupes, and a 328CI costs about £750 fully comp, whereas a 330I sport costs £650 (non coupe), which has about 30 more BHP than the 328CI.

Not quite as well probably, but I would say the difference between the two is a lot less than you would imagine.

The 2.0 Zetec got wider tyres too so will make up for the more weight over the Puma. Stick on good tyres, maybe get a set of good quality 30-35mm lowering springs to make the ride a little harder and it will hold the road much better than you would expect.

Plus you will have a larger boot, and the rear legroom is good. If I remember you wanted something a bit easier to live with than your Saxo? The Focus will give you that, but still handle really well.

Coming from a Puma owner I'd agree with the most part. The Focus will be much easier to live with.

FWIW though, Admiral were the cheapest by far insurance wise, and I've not had any problems in the 14 months I've owned it (touch wood ;))

yep, thanks for the advice. :)

My puma insurance when 21 was ~£800 fully comp with alloys declared. I agree with the Focus suggestion above. If you need the rear seats and a boot, then go for one of them. If you just want a chuckable coupe, then get the puma  The two reasons I changed from the puma after 3 years was due to the lack of space and it also isn't particulary quick (~120BHP). Cheap to run though.

Exactly why I want to change mine now, need a bit more space and something quicker.

the pumas are strange.......i'm 19, have a group 16 2.5l v6 mondeo, and can insure a group 17 bmw 330i no problem, but my insurer tell me to come back when im 21 for the puma 1.7?
