Any of you guys on here got a punch bag? If so...

1) Which bag have you got? What size?

2) How are you hanging it?

Started doing a bit of Muay Thai so figured it would be nice to get one up in the back room. I only do it leisurely so don't need anything professional. Just something cheap and cheerful for me to whack. Nice for fitness too.

Thanks

I used to have one in the garage.

Was massive, about 5 foot and weighed a tonne.

Used to be hung, via a chain over a gurder we had in there.

Had one of those fill the base up with water / sand ones. Used it a lot for the first couple of yrs.. For the last couple of yrs it was just sitting in my garage taking up space, so i sold it.. Problem with a hanging bag is the damage you do to the ceiling. So this was a good compromise

I was thinking of putting a new beam between 2 joists in the loft and then bolting through that.

Free standing bags seem like an OK idea but I heard they move around lot.

If youre going to be doing a lot of kicks, I recommend a floor stander that you fill with sand (or water), but make sure it has a large base so it doesnt move around.
At Fairtex we have concrete poles in the ground with the padding wrapped round them, works a treat, but could be a PITA for you to install at home.

I'd mostly use it for punching drills I imagine as the room it would go in doesn't have that much space. It's just something I'd like to have at home to give me more cardio options - theres already a cross trainer etc. I just hate going to the gym to do cardio...weights, no problem :D cardio...eissh
