Purpose built convertibles, quick and under £15k?

I think the running costs would depress me and it wouldn't offer enough over the 3.0.

22, Southend, Essex and have had a licence for 3.5 years and will have 4 years NCB in October. Who are you insured with? Those prices were with Admiral.

The Msport 530 quotes are the horrid prices. The rest are OK imo.

Yum, but sadly I don't think it is for me. :)

The Z4M will provide you with plenty enough over the 3.0l, it's an excellent car. But as Fox keeps saying, you don't want a car which will cost you a lot to run, this means it's out.

That leaves you with a choice of the 3.0i Z4, S2000 and Boxster.

When I was looking for my s2000 I drove all of them; The boxster was the best ride and handling, the Z4 just didn't seem enough for me, but the s2000 was the one which provided all the smiles and ultimately the one I bought.

Yes insurance is high, but servicing is low, if you get an older s2000 the tax is reasonable. Not much really goes wrong on them either, so you'll find that if you get a good one you won't have issues with it. Generally bomb proof.

The fact he thinks insurance is 'too expensive' an on an S2000 makes me think its out of his running costs budget. People who complain about insurance costs don't buy cars which have Inspection 2 services that cost 800 quid :p

Because £4k/year for insurance is reasonable :p

Those are the quotes I was getting on an S2000 until recently...

I really do think the regular Z4 is something of a performance bargain. It'll cost you under £10k for a nice one, it's fast no matter what everyone else will say and roof motor aside there isn't really a huge potential for big bills either - even servicing is very reasonable. I'm not talking Ford Focus running costs, its still £180 for a decent rear tyre, but compared to many other similar cars it's shockingly reasonable.

And the engine gives class leading fuel economy considering it's performance as well :)

OP you can have my E93 335i with a Evolve remap for 16.5k (very high spec)
Is yours manual? I was actually looking at these last night, and I could only find 3 manual 335i E93's for sale, 2 with nav, and none with sensible choices for seat covers (i.e. not red or white). Finding one of these in spec seems to be like finding pixie dust.

I may just settle for a 3.0i Z4, although I need to check if I fit in that, I recall issues when I sat in my uncle's...

So? A 350z is on par if not sportier than a z4 and lol slk is more "GT" than any 350z

It's still a 350z with the roof cut off despite what anyone's opinion of it's looks/appeals are.

A purpose built convertible has the chassis and all other elements designed and built specifically for a convertible platform.

That and the 350z is possibly one of the most ugly convertibles on the planet, how they made it look like the KA convertible I have no idea.

It would not be too bad if not for the fact they TOTALLY knackered the lines the roof of the coupé makes at the rear of the car. Just does not work at all in the looks department.

Just one of the illustrations of failure when cutting roofs from coupés to make convertibles. The car was never designed to be aesthetically pleasing in such a form!
