Pussy Riot face jail - what are your views?

Not sure Russia is the sort of country you want to try pushing your luck in... Is it right? No, will that make a difference? Probably not, no.

cant blame them for trying , atleast they have raised 'some' awareness. not that much though because of the total misinformation in our news

Yeah, but even the American's aren't stupid enough to try and remove Putin.. and the Chinese won't... So he'll be there until a revolution...

I don't get why they did it. Interrupting a religious service to do what they did was stupid, and they deserve punishment.

Having a go against Putin is fair enough. Having a go against the lack of free speech in Russia is fair enough. But going and messing around with the state religion? That's just asking for trouble and knew they'd get done.


That said, I find it amusing the way that the media is going on about how them being arrested is not free speech etc. I thought we all knew for ages that there isn’t free speech in Russia. It’s no big surprise!
 
I admire them for the courage of their convictions, but there's little doubt in my mind they made a poor choice in venue. But if this finally reaches the European court of appeal, and the Russian courts abide by their ruling, I suspect the two year sentence will be overturned. Who knows how long that might take though...?

After that it will either blow over, or they will do something else and be back where they are now.

Pussy Riot's music isn't to my taste though, so maybe they should be locked up :P

I wish they had a more offensive name, so that the news reporters were forced to say it. Like FAGGOT PANTS or something.

Didn't think the video was THAT bad, certainly no worse than British cops beating protesters with their batons in the UK, footage of which appears every single time a protest happens.

I would never condone the beating of anyone, but let's face it these "Pussy Riot" woman are idiots, especially when they know what they are up against. I also don't like the attitude that you can go and disrupt other people's events by acting like a complete **** and then pretend to be the victim when security come and force you to stop.

Had the police here been all gently, gently the video would have gone up on Youtube as "Women get one over on dumb policemen", so in some ways they can't win either way.

They knew the response they were going to get.

That doesn't make it right for the Cossacks to act in that way, by any means, but I'm not going to feel sorry for them for getting thrown a beating.

I wouldn't call them idiots, I think they know exactly what they are doing and what's going to happen to them as a result. By doing what their doing their highlighting all the problems with Russia to the world probably with hope that it will shame the government into eventually changing it's ways.
 
They are far from idiots. One off them was on Russia on 4 wheels. They know full well what the consequences are, and are fully prepared to go to jail. And good on them for standing up like that. They are also fully aware you can't change the world in a day.

Were any of the black rights movements or women rights moments etc, idiots? As it took decades for change?

Without people standing up you won't get an increasing follower base.

Hang on... The Cossacks aren't a government department are they? Basically they are the equivilant of the Hell Angels being hired out for brute force policing... not the real police, so they can do what the f they want?
