Hi guys. Just recently purchased a Q6600 G0, and put it onto the ASUS P5B motherboard that I already had. It's up and running perfectly atm, but I'm interested in bringing the clock speed of the Q6600 up to around 3.2-4Ghz-ish. Currently using a Scythe Ninja PLUS-B HSF.

What i want to know is, is the P5B a good enough mobo to start overclocking the CPU to speeds of 3.2GHz-ish? And would I need to OC my mobo and RAM too while I was at it? Never really OC'ed before, so I don't know these things. Skim read the beginners guide, but felt really lost.

What would be my best course of action IF I can overclock effectively with my P5B?

Cheers.

read the stickies in this section is the best place to start

that motherboard should let ou clock some but not as good as the newer p35 x38

You should be fine :)

I used a P5B-Deluxe with a G0 Q6600 and it clocked to 3400MHz without much fuss. While the P5B-Vanilla may not be as good a clocker as the deluxe version I should imagine you will still be good for 3200MHz-3400MHz is your chip is half decent.

3.2 GHz is fairly easy on a P5B.

I was running a GO @ 3.2 @ 1.45 vcore prime stable on a vanilla board up until last month.

It would go to 3.4 but wasn’t prime stable, but would run 24/7 without a crash!

Temps with Artic freezer pro were around 60 full load.

Its now running a E6400 @ 3.4GHz.

They are a great mobo, I’ve had 3, but some are better than others.
