Ok so i've just put said mobo in my new case etc and formatted , everything is running great and the ram is running at 1066 as default which is nice because something you gotta clock it up yourself.

However the Q6600 was running at an 8x multiplaying and only 2.2 as default which was strange , i think changed the multiplier to 9x and ran at 2.4, if i went any higher the system wouldnt post , i had a few trials and errors with changing voltage and the fsb along with an 8x and 9x multiplier and it wouldnt go above 2.4. The Q6600 is G0 stepping btw , could any1 give me a set combination to use that is known to work or any other help , thanks.

i tried just simply putting the fsb at 333 with x9 and similar fsb with x8 and it just wouldnt post , im gona try a few more times tonight but im skeptical

I am using a Gigabyte board a P35C DS3L so i would imagine they are pretty similar, i recall reading that Q6600 doesn't like 1066 ram at full speed mine don't anyway crashes out and are you adjusting the multiplier on the memory.

When you add to the fsb it will higher the clock on the memory are you lowering that with the memory multi to compensate.

Ok so if you have your system at 266MHz-FSB you will be using the [2:1] memory multiplier to get the ram running at 533MHz (DDR2-1066)

How do you mean "any higher"? . . the multi cannot go any higher than x9 on your chip?

Well if you didn't adjust the memory multiplier and it was still on [2:1] then you would have been trying to get your ram running at 666MHz (DDR2-1333) :D

That's entirely not true, the Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 can make full use of out DDR2-1066 even with the processor at stock 2.4GHz (9x266), once you start increasing the FSB you should also try to increase the Memory frequency to keep up!

When you add to the fsb it will higher the clock on the memory are you lowering that with the memory multi to compensate.
Go on Jabbs you tell him!

P.S: The Memory Multipliers in this chart are correct, it's just CPU-z that puts the numbers back to front i.e [2:1] in chart equals [1:2] in CPU-z . . . also ony the latest Intel chipsets (P4x series, maybe P3x series) offer you the full spectrum of Memory Multipliers . . .

i meant couldnt go any higher than 2.4 not the multiplier as i know that doesnt go any higher.

the link between fsb and memory speed must be the problem , ill find out when i get back l8er on , thanks for the help.

Have you updated your bios??

If not on the disc with the drivers install the Gigabyte bios update programme, once installed you should find it in your start menu.

When i got this board i left it in my case and ran it with the cpu at stock (2.4ghz) for a couple of weeks, i heard that sometimes that is good to do to let the software "bed-in" (probably wrong !!)

Once done i first set the cpu to 400x8 which gave me 3.2ghz and was stable straight off the bat, ran prime 95 with no probs, v-core was set to 1.41875, i set my mem multiplier to 2 in dram freq.

That ran fine at 3.2 with those settings, after that i set the cpu freq to 378x9, upped v-core to 1.4275 but left the dram at 2, runs at 3.4 no probs.

My temps are 25-29 idle and 56 max under load, got a titan fenrir cooler in a CM590 dominator case, and am really happy with the temps.

Good luck

Hey there, new to the forum.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but was wondering if i could use this info to overclock an older q6600 b3? I hear the temps can be a lot higher on the older cpu?

New to overclocking I'm using same motherboard, tuniq tower 120, corsair tx 750, 4gb geil black dragon ddr2

cheers in advance ;)

Read all the "Important Stuff" at the top of this section and do a search there is loads on a Q6600.

Gave up clocking as it always stops posting... just use the gigabyte clocking software on the CD.. all Ive read here doesn't work for me... but the software does..

i've been running this on a ds3r for a year at 2.2, you sure you took off speedstep and eist? the gigabyte mobos will self throttle to be energy efficient but this can be turned off..

I haven't looked into the Gigabyte clocking software yet, I followed Kopkings post and upped the fsb to 333x9 with v-core set to 1.41875 for 3.Ghz, ran prime 95 for 30mins and no errors (should prolly run it for longer?)

Temps full load were 58, 53, 50, 55

Seems a bit hot especially the north bridge, but tbh i don't have great cooling on my cm stacker 810

Probably should have thought about buying a new case before attempting to o/c
Just trying to save for a new system at the min.

Cheers ;)

Tried again... same old poo.... attempts to boot twice... multipul beeps then resets its self.. :(

Wondering now if my GEIL rams ok...

I am using Geil ram, 1066mhz black dragon. seems stable but ive only tried it at 3Ghz nothing more.

Which of the geil ram do you have?

i can get 3.2 stable with my ds3r and kingston hyper-x, my ram is rated to 1066 so i just move to another strapping which produces 800mhz (i forget the strapping) THEN i start clocking until the ram goes up to 1066 (though it usually goes to abou 1027 or something).

sorry for the n00ble question but are you checking your memory strapping? cos the first time i oc'd my Q6600 i ignored the memory strapping, tried to boot 1066 ram at 1600 and, well, that corsair dominator was dear ram before i baked it lol

Weird can't seem to get my gtx280 to work on this board, I boot up and then hear 2 bleeps the cards fan spins for ten seconds then stops and no post. old 7950gt works fine though.

280 not faulty as works in other rig, motherboard bios is latest F11

Could there be a setting in the bios i need to change in order for the card to work?

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers in advance
