Q6600 to i7 2600k 3.4 worth it?

I don't want to be rude but that's not very nice to that person when he could get a i5 3570k and a 7850 probably for that money which would benefit him a lot more then a q6600 system without a graphics card, sure it has some water cooling and ssds but it's not really needed if he's using it for gaming, I just think if someone did that to me it wouldn't be very nice...

I still don't understand why the OP is shopping for a 2600k when the newer sb batches are meant to be worse overclockers than they were and compared to a 3770k why bother going SB... Not many SB overclockers had their chips beyond 4.5Ghz anyway..

Because the OP doesnt keep up with this stuff. My customers all want Pentium D web boxes not i7 rocketships. Some good info in here tho thanks, looks like the 3770k is the way to go 255 quid isnt too bad at all looking at the performance, the sensible side of me thinks a 2500k i5 is more than enough of an upgrade over the quad for 100 less buuuuut not sure i can resist

Disagree on that, when the SB landed there were loads of members on the forums clocking theres beyond 4.5GHz.
Theres numerous threads ;)

no guilt in business fella, if you ever had to deal with the reality of computer sales and support youd probs agree with charging 1400 for it, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

Here's what going from Q6600 stock to i7 2600k (@4.5ghz on air) does.

And Here's i7:

This is me benching before changing q6600 to i7 innards. I do this at every major upgrade, just to see what i spent my money on :D
I have ran PerfTest for 5 times, taken 5th result each time.

well after all the advice i went i5 3570k and a water cooler setup, upgraded the board to a p8z77-v pro and 16gb corsair vengance ram, this way im spending similar money but can go high end i7 in the future as a standalone upgrade, once adding water to the i7 we were looking over 300 for cpu and cooler alone not sure of the value.

holy moly, i never said i was an expert i said i was a professional, im the first to say that i dont know about high end or even med - high end kit, what i know is how to remove a fake anti spyware using safe mode and how to build a kick ass celeron based PC. The relative difference between a z68 and a z77 is not something ive given a crap about since i was 20 years old as it in no way make me any money!

People on here are so judgmental id love to meet you all in your parents basement and see whats what.

Be under no illusion a Q6600 is better than an i5.

I lol'd so hard I squirted pepsi out my nose, now there's pepsi on my screen and all I can smell is Pepsi :(

What i5 are you talking about? the 2300? a Q6600 overclocked to 3.5ghz still cannot keep up with a stock 2500k or 3570k and once the i5 gets clocked the Q6600 is left for dead.

*EDIT*

Sorry, realised you were saying the same thing as me.
