Q9550 ES Testing (lots of pics)

Ah haaa, Asus have just released a new bios (602) that isn't up on thier main site yet. And now I can see the half multi. Although I still cant select it in bios, auto selects it by default.

Remember that this is an ES chip so final retail chips could be better, plus I haven't confirmed that it is an FSB wall yet.

This Penryn is 2 to 5 hundred mhz faster than a Q6600 clock for clock also using a lot less power making it easier to cool and overclock.

Maybe not for you easy. But for someone coming from a lower spec CPU, or wanting to run a reasonably high overclock without expensive cooling, it could be an attractive proposition.

Looks like I will have to get a QX chip to justify my phase change. :o

Seeing how new the X38 boards in particular are, and that the Penryn chips arent even OUT yet, isnt it a LITTLE early to be passing judgement.

Correct. This is an ES chip so expect the possibility some sort of improvement for final retail chips, but it will give an accurate preview of what to expect.

Penryn bios' were only released last week (formula 602 on the 31st) so its very early days yet.
