Hi All

Will adding a quad port nic card to my PC and Server increase transfer speeds ? I dont quite understand them as i have never looked, However does the one card keep 1 ip ? Does it effectively increase bandwidth by 4X minus any inefficiency ? could an N54L actually churn out enough power to use the 4 ports? Im guessing the CPU will be the bottle neck ? Does any fancy configuration on routers / switches need setting up ?

Sorry for questions its just somthing i have never looked into in any detail

Basically no.

Each port on the card is treated as a different connection, by default, and can be configured with it's own address. That being said it is possible to bond/team multiple ports together if the switch they're plugged into supports it, but that tends to be more for resiliency (if one link goes down you still can send traffic) or to increase total bandwidth and an individual connection from another box, particularly in a home environment, is unlikely to see any change in transfer speed.

Basically in a home environment unless you have a need to connect to multiple networks for some reason there is little point.
