• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Quads finally coming into their own?

I'm pretty sure that TDP isn't even the amount of power the chip draws, it's the amount of heat the heatsink will have to get rid of, measured in Watts (Hence 'Thermal Design Power').

The two should be equal. In steady state the energy put into the system must also be removed at the same rate. Any inequality between these values will result in a change of temperature in the CPU (think of physical temperature as a concentration of heat energy in a localised area). But, as we all know, fairly stable temperatures are reached quickly under constant load.

Basially, under full load, energy in = energy out. Basic thermodynamics.
