But the amazing result is the 2560x1600 testing. The Quad SLI configuration took 7,600+ points at the maximum resolution of 2560x1600. Frame rates were quite smooth and much more consistent than when you benchmark at the default resolution of 1024x768. This gave us a lot of hope in the smooth gaming performance at Extreme HD resolutions of 2560x1600 promised by NVIDIA.

To top things off, we ran 3D Mark 05 at 2560x1600 with the maximum anti-aliasing setting offered by Quad SLI... 32x SLI AA!! We ended up with a score of 3000+, which is amazing at this kind of settings. Maximum resolution with a breakthrough level of anti-aliasing. The frame rates is definitely not liquid smooth, but not exactly a slide show either. That's pretty much the speed of getting your 6600GT to run 3d mark 05 but at image quality settings so many times better. You can say I've never seen 3D Mark 05 look this good and sharp.

We did manage to feel the card a bit during the benchmarking and frankly they don't feel as hot as I expected, probably due to the lower clock speeds, smaller die and possibly lower voltage.

NVIDIA announced that system builders and OEMs are offering Quad SLI technology in their systems today, as of launch date 9th March. We really look forward to testing out such a system! Hopefully we can get our hands on one such system soon!

32XAA @ 2560x1600 3dMK05 at a playable speed- now that is awesome power.

If you don't play at HD res then why would you even considerate it. That is a completely nonsense argument!

There is no point in buying a Ferrari is you can't drive! :p

Origianlly i thought these Quad SLI (2 x dual graphics cards) were going to be made of either 7900GT (most likely) or 7900GTX (less likely), but it turns out they are using neither really. The quad SLI are in effect 4 cards that are individually slower than a 7900GT. THough admittadly their performance from 4 cards is good.

To go quad SLI is going to be very expensive, as early indications are they are only going to system builders so you will need to get a whole new pc. Though Nvidia have stated if theres enough demand they will sell to retail market.

lol waste of time and money, them cards

why not have 2x gpu on one PCB

what they have made there is a mess inside a pc!

seems they'l be available to OEM's , so we might get them here at OCUK eventually...

Soon the individual Duo cards will be availble to buy though, and then there is nothing much stopping you from setting up a Quuad SLI (apart from expensive, power supply etc.)

QuadSLI is basically becomming the new SLI. It isn't much difference to how AMD and Intel went Dual Core, and are soon going to go quad core.

It is a silly, silly thing for your average punter but technologically it is a great acheivement. Nvidia are well ahead of the mutli-gpu game, as hgihlighted by Anandtech
In general, SLI edges out CrossFire in most cases. Under F.E.A.R., Quake 4 and BF2 at high resolutions, SLI shows a larger performance increase than CrossFire. Splinter Cell does do a good job of showing the potential of Crossfire, but as of now we don't see as many games scaling as well with CrossFire as they do with SLI.

Still, Nv have had around 3-4 years more development time so thats what I would expect. The R600 should have some dedicated mutli-gpu logic built into the core but it probably wont be until the R700 until ATI have a chip with multi-gpu functionality builtin.

Think Gibbo said expect a long wait for these.
Awesome for anyone with a 24" monitor or more, pointless for the 99% of us.

yep, ultimately cool, but pretty much useless. I do see this taking off though over the next year. Just think, SLI 7900 GTs cost less than RRP of the 7800 GTX 512MB (and the orignal RRP of the X1900XT-X) and give far more performance.

SO SLI is basically moving down to the price of the old top end cards, amking an SLI setup THE setup that high end games use. Soon, QuadSLI will be the extreme end like SLI is now (or should I say was with the excelent price point of the 7900GT).

Will certainly come into its own when games are more....hmmm dual core friendly. Need more taxing pure graphic card effects as well... not too dependant on memory though (aka HDR).
