Quake 4 being re-released for PC and Xbox

Still (and always did) think it looked ****.

Quake 2 was polished, might be a bit blocky and low res textures - especially by todays standards - but they all fit in.

Quake 4 is a mess of harsh lighting/contrast, high res textures on low res geomery, low res textures on high detail geometry, everything looks plasticy even more so than doom3.

As a SP game in its own right it wasn't terrible to play tho nothing inspirational but as a follow up for Quake 2 it fell far far short.

But yeah I'd love a proper highres remake (not "HD" remake thats basically crappy geometry with overly bump mapped textures/shiny shaders) of Quake actually - I replayed it about a year ago or so and had as much fun playing through it as I did when it first came out and while the graphics are quite low res they are nicely detailed and fit in for the most part.

It always felt like creepy floor lighting everywhere. Quake 4 never really felt like Quake. Felt like a spin off from Doom3 due to the lighting and as you said, plastic feel. Sometimes reminds me of something from morph. Or Madame Tussauds? just without the realism. House of Wax or something... such a nasty feel of plasticine everywhere.
