Quality 2.1 speakers

£70 seems like an ok deal if they are not damaged in anyway. The cheapest I have seen these are £90 including delivery.

What does fascinate me though, is this "akasa zen". Is this something bought off a shaolin monk to improve concentration during battle?

lol the akasa zen is a case, quite well known.

and the speakers are in perfect condition, except a few scuffs, and one of the cables is a little grubby.

They sound amazing :D

I'll get some pics up ASAP.

I'm slowly uploading a few pics so here goes...

The only thing that I dont like about this unit is that it cant accept multiple inputs from different souces (like a hifi amplifier can). I currently have an old amplifier and Im thinking about just buying a pair of speakers, 2nd hand and making do with those.

What I like about these and other computer speaker sets are the small satellites. If I buy separate hifi speakers, they will be big and obtrusive.

Oh and your sub should go on the floor, should it not?

it does have another input but still.

and yes it will go on the floor eventually, but ive gotta sort out my wires first.

I'd just use a stereo integrated amp and bookshelf speakers, SIG have plenty of inputs...PC speakers connectivity is far too limited.

£200 should get you something pretty good, second hand. You won't need the subwoofer, in fact it'll sound better.

I've taken a look at the pic you took of the back of the sub. I can only see a single set of inputs - for right, left and centre. I cant see another set of inputs.

it has a mini-jack input on the front, which is designed for mp3 players etc...

OIC.

And is there a button that allows you to select between which input is being amplified? Eg. if you have your PC connected to the main inputs at the back and an MP3 player hooked up to the front and both PC and MP3 player are putting out music, is there a button that allows you to select which source is played through the speakers?

Thanks.

There's a total of five inputs available, one of which is switchable from a line input into an MM phono stage.

auction ID 160186331746 Arcam Alpha 7
^Go for that tbh proper I/O switching.. headphone amp too.

I'm not sure, I don't think there is a switch, but there could be one hidden somewhere.

I think it just blanks the input from the pc when the front mini-jack is in use.

I already have an old amplifier that was part of my hifi a few years ago. I remember when I got it, it was the amplifier of the year at the time. Arcam do make some fantastic amps though. What I need are some very small speakers.

Right now Im thinking of getting either some Mission speakers (2nd hand of the bay) for around £30 or so. OR to get the Aego 2.1 speaker package.

The advantage with just buying some speakers for my amplifier is that its will work out cheaper, though the speakers will be larger and obtrusive (for a bedroom). On top of that, it will have multiple inputs, so there will be no problems with adding extra sources in the future.

The advantage with the Aego 2.1 is that they are compact and will suit a bedroom environment, though the problem is that there are only 2 inputs (one of which is an MP3 input, which looks a little ropey to me).

Sound quality should be comparable, though the amplifier+speaker solution should be slightly better.

well thats a pretty good summary, the satellites are very nice and small.

the sub can produce some serious bass too if thats ** thing, and if not you can turn the bass down, and it still sounds great, very clear sound, very crisp.

Just got a set of Logitech x230's

Sound awesome, bass is bloody loud! Only got them connected to 360 as speaker gives feedback when on ventrilo.

First x230 is a great speaker. I have one connect to my sammy 42 inch.
AE aego through my computer.
I find out that it is really hard to compare there two speakers as they are in two
different class.
AE are far more better than x230 , whatever sound or bass. ;)

I also have Aego M Brackets ( cost £10) to keep my speaker off the table.

So what you have said is that the Aego is in a different league compared to the x230, but the x230 isnt bad.

Sounds to me like the x230 sucks. ;)

For now, I have taken the rear (Mission M70) speakers that I was using in my lounge and put them in my bedroom. And am using the Sony amplifier with them. I am looking to get a pair of speakers 2nd hand. Im looking at Mission 753 (auction id: 130180262012), for now. If I do get these then they will go in the lounge and I shall bring the Mission 751 speakers (that I love) in the bedroom.

The above solution should be a lot better than any computer speaker available on the market and it shouldnt cost too much either. I couldnt believe that I was even contemplating buying a computer speaker, given that many years ago I realised that computer speakers dont represent good value for money (unless your max budget is £50).

If you dont mind going the 2nd hand route, I really cant see how the Aego can compete against a good 2nd hand amp/speaker combo, for about the same price (~£100, amp £40, speakers £40).

I've lost count of the number of people who've assumed this, primarily because they've never heard the Aegos in action. I guess it's an understandable assumption if all you've ever known is Logitech and Creative computer audio [not you specifically, sunama - I think it's fair to say that these two companies dominate the consumer PC speaker marketplace].

I've tested the Ms against a Cambridge Audio+Gale setup.

The Aegos gave the separates a kicking. It wasn't even close.

You'd need to spend quite a bit more money to get an equivalent sound from separates, if what I've heard is representative. Acoustic Energy are hi-fi specialists too, don't forget.

Ive heard/owned plenty of Creative computer speakers and in general what I found was that they were loud, they gave very big bass, but they were not as clear and detailed as the separates that replaced them. What I found was that the separates gave a much more "fuller" and "complete" sound to music, games and movies. The sound, felt a lot more expensive.

The only quality computer speakers I have ever heard were the Videologic ones about 5yrs back. They were good and I was impressed with them. I found that they were only as good as separates, but not better.

The Cambridge Audio and Gale setup was obviously budget oriented and the cost of buying these new would be around £120 (at a guess). What if though, you were to go for 2nd hand speakers/amp and compare the Aego M speakers to those (in otherwords, the Aego will now compete against separates that, when new, would've cost around £200-250, but 2nd hand would cost around £80-100)?

The Aego's are indeed produced by a HiFi specialists, but the budget that they are working to is a serious constraint for the manufacturer. The Aego M speakers can be bought for £90 delivered.

What the Aego M's have in their favour is there bedroom friendly size. Its ok to have huge floor standers in a living room, but for a smaller bedroom, the Aego would score heavily due to their diminutive size. This is what interested me initially in the Aego M speakers - good sound, small size. It was only after I quickly paired up my old Sony amp with the Mission M70 (that I already had), that I realised what great sound quality, even the smaller M70 speakers, offer.

EDIT: for games, I think the Aego speakers would win, due to their dedicated sub and the importance of bone shaking bass preferred for game audio.
